Coinbase CEO Highlights Why BTC Could Replace US Dollar: Details

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has warned that Bitcoin could eventually replace the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency. His statement comes amid rising concerns about the United States’ growing national debt, which has now reached $37 Trillion.

The possibility of fiscal instability is prompting individual states and institutional investors to turn to Bitcoin as a potential hedge.

Armstrong shared his view shortly after the passage of a controversial spending bill backed by former President Donald Trump. The legislation proposed expanded tax cuts, increased military funding, and reduced spending on social programs.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong Cautions Over Fiscal Trends

In a post on the X platform, Brian Armstrong warned that confidence in the dollar could weaken. This could occur if the U.S. fails to manage its debt. This could allow Bitcoin to emerge as the global reserve currency.

He emphasized that while he supports Bitcoin, maintaining U.S. economic strength is crucial. Coinbase CEO Armstrong expressed concern about the federal government’s growing debt load and what it might mean for the dollar’s future.

His comments came as market observers continued to express anxiety over long-term fiscal sustainability in the U.S. The Coinbase CEO added,

“If the electorate doesn’t hold congress accountable to reducing the deficit, and start paying down the debt, Bitcoin is going to take over as reserve currency.”

Armstrong’s remarks reflect growing calls for fiscal discipline from the tech and finance sectors. He said Bitcoin offers a monetary alternative that may become more attractive if current policies continue unchecked.

States and Investors Turn to Bitcoin

State governments, including New Hampshire and Arizona, are now adopting Bitcoin in their financial planning. Lawmakers say this is a direct response to what they see as unsustainable federal fiscal behavior.

New Hampshire Representative Keith Ammon said the U.S. government will likely print more money to service its debt. He warned that such measures could harm the dollar’s long-term value and that Bitcoin could be a hedge.

Institutional investors are also increasing their Bitcoin holdings. Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has announced plans to raise $250 Million through a preferred stock offering. The capital will be used to purchase more Bitcoin and fund operations.

The company has positioned itself as a corporate Bitcoin treasury. Its continued expansion reflects broader interest from the private sector looking for alternatives to traditional assets.

Controversial Spending Bill Raises Debt Concerns

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a new spending bill in May. This includes provisions for tax cuts, military increases, and cuts to welfare programs. The legislation has generated widespread debate among economists and policymakers.

Six Nobel Prize-winning economists cautioned that the proposed bill might significantly increase the national debt. They estimate the potential rise to exceed $3 trillion.

Their joint letter warns of severe economic consequences if the bill is enacted without adjustments. They noted that the cost could rise even higher if the bill’s provisions become permanent.

Critics argue that the bill’s design could worsen inequality and place more strain on federal finances. Tesla CEO Elon Musk called the bill a “disgusting abomination” and criticized it for increasing spending while reducing key services.

The bill’s passage has intensified debate over the dollar’s long-term viability as a global reserve asset. Analysts say the growing debt levels could make Bitcoin a more attractive store of value.

Elon Musk reacted to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong’s remarks, prompting discussion about Bitcoin’s future.

The Bitcoin Therapist argued that Bitcoin’s rise as the global reserve currency is inevitable. The analyst suggested that the Tesla CEO knew about this unavoidable reality.

Bitcoin Seen as Alternative to Inflationary Currencies

People who back Bitcoin believe it is a currency that can withstand inflation and the addition of more money. Bitcoin’s supply is set and limited, which strong proponents argue helps preserve its value.

Kadan Stadelmann, the Chief Technology Officer at Komodo Platform, stated that Bitcoin is valuable for storage when economic uncertainty exists. He said Bitcoin was introduced in 2008, primarily to address the weaknesses revealed by the financial crisis.

Investors losing confidence in the dollar might shift their capital toward Bitcoin. This surge in demand could lead to a shortage of cryptocurrency. He thinks this move could lead to more people turning away from traditional currencies.
