Key Insights:
- The DVOL index shows an extreme complacency signal, often preceded by price breakouts.
- An altcoin season is approaching as Bitcoin dominance breaks at 60.5%.
- ETH, SOL, XRP, and ADA are eyeing new highs amid market volatility.
The Deribit Bitcoin volatility index (DVOL) is near historic lows, signaling extreme market complacency.
However, the low volatility period can precede price breakouts for Bitcoin (BTC) and altcoins, including Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, and Cardano (ADA).
ETH price has continued to increase over the past few days, raising discussions about a possible altcoin season.
The Deribit DVOL Index and Implication
According to data analytics provider Glassnode, the DVOL index has dropped near historic lows. Notably, only 2.6% of days showed lower values.
Simply put, DVOL is a measure of how much market participants expect prices to move over the next 30 days. The index is based on the implied volatility from Bitcoin options traded on the Deribit exchange.
The greater the volatility, the higher the option premium and vice versa. Thus, a low implied volatility suggests extreme complacency, meaning traders are not expecting the Bitcoin price to move significantly.

Accordingly, limited demand for downside protection may increase the risk of sudden volatility shocks in the short term. While extreme complacency often precedes big volatility, it might be the calm before a storm in BTC.
Low volatility periods often coincide with hidden risk buildup. This means prices may move rapidly and sharply in response to sudden events.
The price of Bitcoin may see a sudden breakout if the right market conditions align. For traders and investors, a good knowledge of these factors can help in proper planning.
Preparing for the Altcoin Season
Meanwhile, discussions about an imminent altcoin season have intensified since Ethereum hit the $4,600 level.
In an X post, market analyst VirtualBacon highlighted that ETH is around $4,600, just shy of an all-time high.
He added that with BTC recently hitting a new record, altcoins are starting to wake up. Another signal pointed out by the analyst is the Bitcoin dominance at 60.5%.
He believes a weekly close below 60.5% is the final green light for altseason.
The analyst believes the next altcoin season could be the cleanest setup. He shared a detailed step-by-step guide on how traders can profit from the upcoming altcoin season.
In the first step, VirtualBacon advised traders to stop chasing “the hottest narrative.” He explained that most coins outperform BTC in true altseason.

“The winners rotate, AI one week, memes the next, gaming, stablecoins, etc. If you only chase the last pump, you’ll always be late,” he noted.
Additionally, he advised traders to follow the money flow. According to VirtualBacon, every altseason begins with large caps, then mid caps, and small caps.
“Don’t overcomplicate rotations yet,” the analyst added. He explained that narrative timing becomes critical when BTC dominance is low and big caps have already skyrocketed.
Thus, investors should focus on lagging large caps for now.
Finally, VirtualBacon noted that traders should stop trying to “chain perfect trades.” “Play one trade at a time. Let it finish. Then rotate,” he noted.
Top Altcoin Price Outlook: ETH, SOL, XRP, and ADA
The prices of top altcoins are currently experiencing downtrends on the daily chart. ETH price fell by 2.7% over the past 24 hours and now worth only $4,630.
Despite the unexpected shift, a lot of traders are still active in the market. Ethereum’s trading volume has surged 17.6% to $73.3 billion.
Other altcoins like SOL, XRP, and ADA follow a similar path to ETH. The price of SOL is down 5.2%, XRP dropped 4.05%, while ADA plummeted 4.4%, maintaining support at $0.95.
Nevertheless, these altcoins are set to hit new all-time highs soon. This is because their prices are still high on the weekly and monthly charts.
