Bitcoin Value Faces Miner Inflow Shock as Bulls Eye $117K Breakout

Historic Miner Inflows Send Warning Signal

Bitcoin confronted a new supply shock after miners transferred record realized inflows to exchanges. Data showed that the “Realized Miner Inflow to Exchanges” metric jumped from $254 million on June 24 to $1.87 billion on Aug. 13, 2025.

Unlike raw miner outflows, this indicator measures coins sent at their cost basis. It reflects the actual realized value of tokens miners offloaded. Standing near $1.54 billion, current levels marked the largest transfer of miner-held value in Bitcoin’s history.

Such moves often raise concerns about market direction. Analysts noted miners were moving coins bought at historically high prices, suggesting profit taking or forced capitulation under financial pressure.

Capitulation or Strategic Profits?

Two narratives emerged around the surge. Some pointed to capitulation, citing climbing electricity costs and rising network difficulty. These factors pressure mining operations, forcing them to sell even higher-cost coins. Historically, similar phases coincided with cycle bottoms.

Others framed the flows as strategic. Miners might be locking substantial profits at local highs, preparing for possible retracements. The chart displayed a sharp divergence between Bitcoin’s price and miner realized inflows. While prices rose, miners accelerated transfers at elevated cost bases.

Regardless of interpretation, the trend underscored heavy supply-side pressure. That dynamic has historically capped upside momentum, fueling short-term volatility and corrections.

Bulls Reclaim Eight-Year Trendline

Despite the miner flows, bullish sentiment resurfaced on technical charts. BitBull (@AkaBull_) highlighted that Bitcoin reclaimed its eight-year trendline after losing it in August.

“$BTC has reclaimed its 8-yr trendline level,” BitBull wrote. “It had a breakout in July, lost it last month. Now, bulls closed a strong candle. Momentum is very strong, a new ATH could happen in 2–3 weeks.”

The post emphasized a renewed push from bulls, suggesting technical resilience despite the miner selling narrative. Traders viewed this level as crucial for sustaining upside toward new highs.

Bitcoin Value Faces Resistance at $117K Ahead of FOMC

Daan Crypto Trades (@DaanCrypto) cautioned that Bitcoin faced key resistance near $116K–$117K. He noted that volatility had been relatively low during the previous week.

“Solid push this week into the $116K–$117K local resistance,” he explained. “Bulls would want to break that region next week to return to that ATH region. FOMC on Wednesday, where we’re expected to see the first 25bps cut in 9 months again.”

The timing placed additional weight on macro triggers. With the Federal Open Market Committee set to cut rates, traders positioned cautiously, balancing optimism with event-driven risk.

Dormant Supply Adds Complexity

While miners moved historic amounts, long-term holders stayed unmoved. TISHA WEB3 (@TishaaWEB3) observed that over 30% of Bitcoin supply had not shifted in five years.

She added that around 7.5% of the total supply may be permanently lost. Such levels of dormancy contrast with miner flows, underscoring the complex dynamics shaping supply.

The coexistence of heavy realized inflows and long-term holder immobility paints a mixed picture. Some supply pressures appear acute, while others remain locked away indefinitely.

Bitcoin Value Market Outlook

Bitcoin’s dual narrative miners sending historic inflows against bullish chart recoveries, set the stage for volatility. The realized miner inflows represent unprecedented value transfers, historically tied to turning points.

At the same time, traders focused on reclaiming key resistance. A breakout above $117K could reopen paths to all-time highs. However, failure at that level and miner selling risks capping momentum.

The Federal Reserve’s rate decision added a critical macro factor. A 25 basis-point cut may fuel renewed demand for risk assets, but it also raised expectations for stronger dollar flows into equities and crypto.

For now, the market balanced miner pressures with bullish technicals. Whether profit realization or capitulation, the record inflows ensured traders approached the next leg of the cycle with caution.
