HYPE Price Faces $4.9M Hit as Whale Triggers POPCAT Collapse: What Next?

Hyperliquid took a major hit after a whale manipulated the POPCAT market in a rapid exploit. The event occurred within an hour and triggered a massive liquidation of many wallets on the platform. The exchange was compelled to absorb a $4.9 million loss using its automated liquidity mechanism.

Whale Actions Trigger a Sharp POPCAT Market Breakdown

Lookonchain reported that the whale withdrew $3 million in USDC from OKX before the exploit. The funds were divided into 19 wallets, a common way to hide trading plans and control exposure. Each wallet deposited money into Hyperliquid just after.

The wallets then opened massive long positions in POPCAT with several coordinated orders. These orders generated buy pressure at around $0.21, resulting in a total of nearly $20 million. This heavy pressure inflated the market, giving the illusion of rising demand. As the price increased, the combined long exposure went to nearly $30 million.

Moments later, the whale swept the massive buy wall away. POPCAT price collapsed instantly because of the vanished support. All long positions were sold from the connected wallets.

The platform’s Hyperliquidity Provider (HLP) absorbed the losses to ensure system balance and market integrity.

Exchange Moves to Restore Stability

The Hyperliquid team shut down the remaining vulnerable positions associated with the coordinated wallets. Soon after, the platform suspended its Arbitrum bridge due to further instability. The bridge handles the transfer between Ethereum and Arbitrum, so the pause is a safety measure.

Other platform services were not interrupted. Hyperliquid assured users that core operations remained stable throughout the review. The exchange revealed that user funds were safe regardless of the high-volatility event.

The exploit came on the heels of the recent HIP-3 upgrade, which improved liquidity flow. Hyperliquid said the system would return to full operation once internal checks were completed. The team continued to monitor tools to identify unusual activity during the recovery process.

The charts indicated that the trading environment remained volatile following the exploit. However, order flow across major markets stabilized gradually. Traders reacted with caution due to a cooling of liquidity.

HYPE Holds Firm Despite Liquidations

The HYPE token recovered rapidly after the exploit. It gained 0.65% to $39.72, indicating resilience across the ecosystem. The rebound helped to calm down market sentiment and regain some confidence.

CoinGlass data showed more than $63 million in POPCAT long liquidations in 4 hours. It also reported $1.6 million in short liquidations. POPCAT trading volume at Roosevelt increased by more than 500%, demonstrating the intense speculation following the collapse.

Charts uploaded to the platform showed HYPE trading between $38 and $40. This range acted as a short-term support region. Hyperliquid’s swift containment measures helped maintain the stability of the HYPE market.

The broader market reaction was mixed as traders made assessments of remaining risks. Many looked for indications of increased volatility in correlated assets. Others tracked liquidity zones marked out on recent charts.

Analysts Highlight Key Zones and Future Risk Factors

Crypto Bully provided a detailed look at the short-term structure of HYPE. He indicated a good demand zone between $34 and $36. He said this area could be a hotbed for new bids if the price returns to the area. His chart also showed repeated liquidity sweeps across the recent lows.

He identified strong resistance around $50-$52, which has repeatedly rejected rallies. His analysis suggests the price may pull back before any prolonged recovery. He said that buyers need to defend the green region to maintain upward momentum.

In related news, Hyperliquid Strategies filed with the U.S. SEC to raise $1 billion. The capital will be used to support the liquidity growth and governance by accumulating HYPE tokens. The rise indicates the greater institutional involvement within the Hyperliquid ecosystem.
