Nvidia Stock Eyes OpenAI $1.2T Raise as AI Spending Holds

Nvidia stock remains under pressure after a volatile week dominated by artificial intelligence safety concerns. NVDA closed at $212.17 on Sept. 15 after falling sharply from its Sept. 4 high of $234.76.

At the same time, Nvidia’s biggest AI customers continue pursuing enormous capital raises. OpenAI is now discussing a funding round that could value the company at roughly $1.2 trillion.

Nvidia Stock Would Benefit as OpenAI Plans a Big Fundraising

NVDA stock is in the spotlight as OpenAI, one of its biggest investments, plans to make a big fundraising. The company is considering raising capital at a $1.2 trillion valuation, much higher than the last effort that valued it at over $850 billion.

It is unclear which companies will participate in this fundraising and whether Nvidia will be one of the investors. Before this, Nvidia has invested $30 billion in the company and is now working to provide a financial backstop worth $105 billion for its Ohio data center.

Nvidia will benefit from this fundraising for two main reasons. First, it will see the value of its Nvidia stake surge substantially. Notably, if it raises funds at this valuation, it means that the company will have an IPO at a higher valuation than that. OpenAI has ruled out an IPO happening this year.

Second, OpenAI will boost its balance sheet, which it will use to purchase more Nvidia chips and make payments to companies that it has a stake in. OpenAI has already inked large data center deals with companies like CoreWeave and Nebius.

Anthropic is Eyeing a $2 Trillion IPO

In addition to OpenAI, Nvidia stock will also benefit from the upcoming Anthropic IPO, which will be the biggest one in the world. Anthropic is considering going public at a $2 trillion valuation. This is important because Nvidia took part in its last fundraising and is a minor investor in the company.

Anthropic has a big relationship with Nvidia as it recently reached a $35 billion agreement with it. This agreement will see it spend most of this money acquiring Nvidia chips.

Anthropic has become one of the fastest-growing companies in the US. It made over $11.5 billion in revenues in the second quarter of the year and has told its investors that it will be profitable for the second consecutive quarter.

Nvidia’s Growth is Expected to Keep Growing

The most recent results showed that the company’s growth continued in the second quarter. Its revenue more than doubled to $96.2 billion, with its data center figure rising to over $89 billion.

Most importantly, the management hinted that the revenue growth will accelerate into next year. It expects revenue to grow by 77% next year, much higher than analysts expected. The actual revenue figure will be higher because the forecast did not include potential Chinese sales.

Nvidia Stock Price Technical Analysis

The daily chart shows that the NVDA stock has slumped this week amid AI safety issues. It has already dropped below the lower side of the rising wedge pattern, which is a common bearish reversal sign in technical analysis.

It has also dropped below the 50-day moving average and the Strong, Pivot, and Reverse level of the Murrey Math Lines tool. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) and the MACD have continued falling.

Therefore, the stock will likely continue to fall, with the next main target at $200. A move above the resistance level of $225 will signal further gains, potentially toward $236.
