The cryptocurrency market has been riding a strong upward trend, with Bitcoin Bitcoin price (BTC) hitting record highs. Earlier this week, BTC soared to an unprecedented $108,268.45, sparking a wave of optimistic forecasts within the crypto community.
Adding to the bullish sentiment, cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex shared an ambitious outlook for Bitcoin. According to Bitfinex analysts, Bitcoin’s price dips in 2025 are expected to be short-lived due to robust institutional demand. The report predicts that, under ideal market conditions, Bitcoin price could double by mid-2025, reaching $200,000.
In the December 16 edition of the Bitfinex Alpha report, analysts highlighted Bitcoin’s remarkable achievements in 2024. This achievement included surpassing a $2 Trillion market capitalization and Bitcoin price hitting an all-time high above $100,000.
The report also underscored the significant impact of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), with U.S. spot ETFs attracting inflows of $35.5 Billion. This has further solidified Bitcoin’s dominance in the digital asset market.
“Looking ahead, we believe the current run-up to over $100,000 has captured a significant portion of Bitcoin’s price appreciation for this cycle,” the analysts wrote. “Our minimum price target for Bitcoin remains at $140,000 – $200,000 around mid-2025.”
The predictions hinge on the expectation that inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs will gain momentum in the coming year, coinciding with a rise in global and institutional adoption of BTC.

Is Bitcoin’s Bullish Movement Set to Experience Downturn in 2025?
A recent Bitfinex report suggests that while Bitcoin may experience downturns in 2025, these dips could be short-lived due to strong institutional demand. The report highlights that 2024, being a halving year for Bitcoin, sets the stage for a historically bullish trend in the year that follows in Bitcoin price.
While some volatility is anticipated in Q1 2025, the broader outlook remains optimistic. Analysts point to continued inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs and the growing global and institutional adoption of Bitcoin as key drivers of sustained price growth.
“In previous cycles, once Bitcoin entered price discovery following a halving, corrections before mean reversion to new ATHs were relatively contained,” the analysts wrote. “In the 2017 cycle, the maximum correction was 33.2 percent, while the 2020 cycle saw a slightly smaller correction of 27.1 percent.”
According to data from Farside Investors, approximately $36 Billion has been invested in U.S.-based spot Bitcoin ETFs since their introduction in January.
“The BTC ETFs are one of the largest cohorts of Bitcoin holders at over 1.13 million BTC,” the analysts said.
Bitfinex analysts note that Bitcoin’s ongoing bull cycle, which began in mid-to-late 2023, has seen smaller corrections since the introduction of Bitcoin ETFs in January. They attribute this to “consistent buying pressure,” predicting that future market pullbacks will likely be “limited and shorter in duration”.
Have Bitcoin ETFs Surpassed Gold Funds in Assets Under Management?
Bitfinex analysts anticipate continued inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs. This has coincided with a significant milestone: Bitcoin-ETF have surpassed gold funds in assets under management (AUM).
According to K33 Research, U.S. Bitcoin ETFs collectively reached $129.25 Billion in AUM as of December 16.

Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas remarked on the milestone, calling it “unreal” that Bitcoin funds are already competing with gold after just 11 months since their launch.
What’s Driving Bitcoin’s Momentum to New Heights?
Market sentiment and Bitcoin price has significantly improved since Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election last November. His administration, set to take office in January, has already appointed several pro-crypto figures, signaling a potentially transformative era for digital assets.
Earlier this month, Trump announced pro-crypto advocate Paul Atkins as the incoming Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Atkins will replace Gary Gensler, who steps down on January 20.
Additionally, Trump tapped Tesla CEO Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), tasked with reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies. Meanwhile, David Sacks will serve as the administration’s lead policy advisor on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency.
Speculation is growing within the crypto community about the Trump administration potentially establishing a strategic Bitcoin reserve. Combined with initiatives like Senator Cynthia Lummis’ Bitcoin Act, these developments hint at robust adoption.
