Key Insights:
- Whale wallets reduce XRP holdings by over 690M in early April
- Price rejects trendline, signaling continued bearish momentum
- Futures open interest drops, showing reduced trader confidence
XRP is showing strong bearish signals as whales sell over 370 million tokens and price rejects a key trendline. With futures interest falling and selling pressure rising, the next key support lies at $1.50, which may be tested if the current downtrend continues.
Whale Activity and Exchange Transfers
Large investors have been decreasing their XRP holdings this month, putting pressure on the token. According to Santiment’s on-chain data, wallets holding between 100 million and 1 billion XRP have sold over 370 million coins since April began. By April 14, their combined holdings had dropped to 8.6 billion from around 9.29 billion XRP on April 3. The decrease also implies heavy selling from major holders.

During this period, XRP’s price was between $1.6 and $2.21, but short-term gains were unable to hold as selling pressure grew. Often, sustained whale movements can influence market sentiment.

At the same time, 29,532,534 XRP, worth about $63.8 million, was moved from a wallet that was previously unknown to Coinbase. Later, the wallet was confirmed to be Coinbase-controlled, which means it was an internal transfer. While not a market sell-off, such large transfers do tend to cause concern among retail traders when volatility is high and prices are coming down.
Chart Patterns and Support Zones
The technical analysis of XRP suggests a bearish outlook, as the upward momentum is still being restricted by a descending trendline. On the daily chart, we can see that the price recently tested this trendline and was rejected once again. This pattern implies that bears are in control.

The descending triangle breakdown projects a price target of around $1.50. This is labeled as strong support, and where XRP consolidated before its previous upward move. If the selling pressure slows down, the price may attempt to bounce here.
Currently, the Alligator indicator, which is made up of three smoothed moving averages, is in a bearish alignment. The short-term green line is below the longer-term lines, which is consistent with the current downward trend. As for the RSI (Relative Strength Index), it is around 47, which is neutral but closer to the oversold side. A break below 40 would confirm the growing bearish momentum.
Futures Market Weakness
Moreover, Coinglass provides data on how traders are reacting through futures market data. Earlier this year, XRP’s open interest, or the total value of active futures contracts, hit as high as $7.76 billion. But both price and open interest have fallen since then.

Open interest has fallen to about $3.2 billion by mid-April. This means many traders are exiting their positions, which is why there is a decline. Open interest falling with falling prices is usually an indication of less market participation, which can be caused by a cautious sentiment or liquidations.
It is a pattern that shows many speculators are pulling back. Price swings could slow with less leverage in the system, but that also implies weaker confidence in a quick recovery.
Energy Efficiency and Market Perception
Long-term views are being shaped beyond trading and technicals and updates from Ripple’s leadership. Ripple’s President Monica Long recently said that the “XRP Ledger is 120,000 times more energy efficient than Bitcoin.” This makes XRP a more environmentally sustainable network than proof-of-work chains.
This doesn’t directly change price trends, but it can affect institutional interest. For ESG-focused investors, energy efficiency is becoming an important factor. With sustainability becoming a central topic in the crypto space, XRP’s low energy footprint could help its adoption in the future.
