Metaplanet Buys 1,088 BTC, Hits 88.8% of 2025 Goal

Key Insights

  • Metaplanet now holds 8,888 BTC, 88.8% of 2025 target.
  • $117.3M in BTC acquired via zero-interest bond strategy.
  • Stock surged 214% YTD as Bitcoin holdings expand.

Metaplanet Inc., the Tokyo-listed investment firm, has added another 1,088 Bitcoin (BTC) to its balance sheet, spending approximately $117.3 million on the latest purchase. The acquisition, confirmed on June 2, brings the company’s total holdings to 8,888 BTC—representing 88.8% of its stated goal of 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025.

The firm’s aggressive Bitcoin strategy has positioned it as Asia’s largest corporate BTC holder, with CEO Simon Gerovich confirming the purchase price at $107,771 per coin.

Metaplanet Bitcoin Yield at 225% in 2025

The company said it has achieved a BTC yield of 225.4% year-to-date, with a 66.3% return between April and June 2. These figures represent the firm’s internal benchmark for gauging Bitcoin’s performance relative to acquisition cost.

In a June 2 post on X, Gerovich wrote, “Metaplanet has acquired 1,088 BTC for ~$117.3 million at ~$107,771 per bitcoin and has achieved BTC Yield of 225.4% YTD 2025. As of 6/2/2025, we hold 8,888 $BTC acquired for ~$829.7 million at ~$93,354 per bitcoin.”

Dylan LeClair, macro analyst and founder of 21st Paradigm, echoed the update on X, citing the same yield metrics for Q2 and YTD. The sharp return aligns with Bitcoin’s price surge earlier this year, following its May 22 all-time high at $112,000.

Bond-Backed Bitcoin Strategy Expands

The firm’s latest purchase comes a week after its board approved two new bond issuances aimed at funding Bitcoin acquisitions. On May 27, Metaplanet announced it would issue its 16th and 17th series of zero-interest ordinary bonds to EVO Fund. The combined value of the new bond issuances is estimated at $71 million.

Metaplanet has adopted a debt-financed strategy for BTC accumulation, using proceeds from bond sales to buy the asset. The firm believes this strategy maximizes long-term exposure while minimizing dilution risk to shareholders.

The company’s stock, traded under ticker 3350.T on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, has reflected investor optimism. Shares rose 2.34% on Monday to 1,092 yen. According to Yahoo Finance data, the stock has gained over 155% in the past month and 214% year-to-date.

BTC Price Stalls Below $106K as Volatility Returns

Bitcoin traded at $104,852 at the time of publication, up 0.4% in 24 hours. Trading volume rose 5% over the same period, suggesting low participation among short-term traders.

Analyst Michael van de Poppe said the market remains in a sideways phase, with bulls eyeing a breakout above the $106,000 resistance. He noted on X that “Bitcoin remains in an uptrend, but only a firm reclaim of $106K could trigger a continuation.”

The macro environment has also added pressure. This week’s upcoming Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) and U.S. unemployment data may introduce volatility, especially as traders rotate into shorter time frames due to tariff uncertainties.

Metaplanet Pushes Ahead Despite Market Caution

Despite choppy price action and tightening liquidity conditions, Metaplanet continues to double down on Bitcoin accumulation. The firm now holds approximately $829.7 million worth of BTC, with plans to acquire at least 1,112 more coins by year-end.

Its current pace—backed by structured bond sales and rising equity value—suggests it could surpass its 10,000 BTC goal ahead of schedule. While other institutional buyers remain cautious, Metaplanet has leaned into volatility, using it to scale up its position.

As of now, the firm owns just under 0.05% of the total Bitcoin supply. If completed, the 10,000 BTC target would give it an even firmer stake in the digital asset’s corporate treasury adoption trend. Whether more firms in Asia will follow remains unclear, but Metaplanet’s trajectory continues to draw attention across markets.
