Bitcoin Bullish Social Sentiments Elevated Ahead of FOMC, What Could Go Wrong?

Bitcoin (BTC) social sentiments have turned positive ahead of the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meetings in the U.S. The crypto market is highly anticipating a rate cut announcement by the U.S. Federal Reserve during the meeting.

A rate cut announcement could see investors shift their attention to Bitcoin, potentially increasing prices. Analysts have already spotted a bullish technical setup in the BTC price charts.

Bitcoin Social Sentiment Outlook

Market intelligence platform Santiment highlighted that the FOMC meetings officially started today and will conclude tomorrow, September 17. The FOMC, a part of the Federal Reserve, sets monetary policy, including interest rates.

The market expects the Federal Reserve to announce a 25 basis point (bps) interest rate cut. This anticipation is already influencing Bitcoin’s social sentiment.

Santiment pointed out that 64% of social media comments about Bitcoin are bullish, the highest positive sentiment since July 10.

This reflects strong crowd greed, meaning retail investors are highly optimistic about Bitcoin’s price rising.

However, Santiment cautioned that markets often move contrary to retail investors’ expectations. Historically, when retail sentiment is overly bullish, it can signal an impending correction rather than a surge.

While this does not guarantee a Bitcoin price correction, Santiment urged investors to moderate expectations of a huge price breakout following the rate cut announcement.

The platform added that if the Fed unexpectedly decides not to cut rates, it could trigger a sharp, sudden correction in Bitcoin and altcoin prices, catching optimistic retail investors off guard.

At press time, the BTC price has experienced a slight increase of 0.34% over the previous day to $115,404.

Analyst Spotlight BTC Bull Flag

A technical analyst, Titan of Crypto on X, spotlighted a “bull flag” pattern on the Bitcoin 4-hour price chart.

A bull flag is a bullish continuation pattern that typically signals a potential upward price movement after consolidation. It consists of a sharp upward move, followed by a brief consolidation phase, where the price moves slightly downward within a parallel channel.

The analyst is excited about the recently formed bull flag, describing it as one of his favorites. Titan of Crypto said the BTC price could reach $120,000 if the bull flag breaks right.

This prediction is based on the pattern’s historical tendency to precede strong upward moves.

However, it is important to note that technical patterns like the bull flag are not guaranteed to play out. The $120,000 reflects the analyst’s optimism rather than certainty.

The outcome depends on market conditions, including results of the FOMC meeting and broader market sentiment.

BTC Price Outlook Ahead of FOMC Decision on Rate Cut

Another market analyst, Ted Pilliows, emphasized that the BTC price is currently consolidating below $117,200 resistance level.

He added that the results of the upcoming FOMC would determine the next direction for Bitcoin. Indeed, it could act as a directional trigger for the BTC price.

The expected 25 bps interest rate cut might boost liquidity and sentiment, encouraging a breakout. Conversely, a hawkish tone could pressure prices downward.

Ted Pillows believes BTC could reclaim a new all-time high (ATH) if it closes above the $117,200 level.

Note that the previous ATH was around $124,171 in August 2025. A push beyond $117,200 might target between $120,000 and $125,000 in the short term. This aligns with ongoing bullish patterns like the 4-hour bull flag.

Ted Pillows, however, noted that a drop below the $113,500 support could lead to a new monthly low.
