ETH News: Ethereum Targets Full Quantum Resistance by December 2029

Ethereum has set December 2029 as its target for full Layer 1 quantum resistance. The Ethereum Foundation’s Protocol Cluster announced the timetable on Sept. 7.

The plan covers Ethereum’s execution, consensus, and data layers. Developers will begin that migration through Hegotá and several later network upgrades.

Ethereum Sets 2029 Quantum Deadline

The Protocol Cluster aims for Ethereum Layer 1 to achieve full post-quantum readiness by December 2029. Developers plan to replace or reduce reliance on cryptographic systems that future quantum computers could challenge.

Ethereum currently relies on several cryptographic tools across different parts of the network. These include ECDSA signatures for externally owned accounts, BLS signatures for validators, and KZG commitments for data availability. Some applications also use proof systems such as Groth16.

The Ethereum Foundation plans to make separate changes in each area rather than relying on a single network-wide switch. That approach gives developers more time to test new cryptographic systems before they reach Ethereum mainnet.

The 2029 date also gives client teams a fixed planning point. The December target is not a forecast for when quantum computers could threaten current cryptography. Ethereum developers can adjust the order and scope of future hard forks while research on post-quantum tools continues.

Hegota Shapes the Migration Path

Hegota will not make Ethereum quantum resistant on its own. Instead, the upgrade will prepare technical features that later forks can use during the post-quantum transition.

The Protocol Cluster reviewed 62 Ethereum Improvement Proposals for Hegota. Developers expect implementation work to begin in late 2026 after Glamsterdam progresses toward mainnet deployment.

Ethereum’s roadmap requires several upgrades after Glamsterdam to reach the December 2029 objective. That schedule creates a tight development cycle, so researchers and client teams plan to work on several fork stages in parallel.

The Foundation also plans a minimum viable post-quantum milestone before the full transition. That fallback structure would allow Ethereum to continue operating if quantum risks develop faster than current forecasts suggest.

ETH News: Key EIPs Move Into Focus

Developers placed FOCIL, or EIP-7805, among Hegota’s highest-priority proposals. FOCIL would strengthen transaction inclusion at the consensus layer by giving validator committees a way to require that eligible transactions be included in blocks.

Frame Transactions, or EIP-8141, also sits near the top of the Hegota list. The ETH news introduces native account abstraction at the execution layer and separates transaction validation, fee payment, and execution into programmable frames.

That structure could help Ethereum accounts adopt new signature systems without forcing every account to migrate at the same time. It could also let users pay transaction fees with supported ERC-20 tokens instead of holding ETH only for gas.

Ethereum developers still need research, testing, security reviews, and client implementation before these features reach mainnet. The Foundation plans to reassess quantum progress with outside experts in early 2027.

Ethereum Price Prediction Eyes $3,000

ETH is trading inside a defined range after its recent move toward the $2,500 area. Crypto Patel identifies resistance between $2,520 and $2,530, while support sits between $2,360 and $2,370.

Ethereum price has tested the upper boundary several times without holding above it. Patel says a two-hour candle close above $2,530 would confirm a bullish range breakout and open a possible move toward $3,000.

The opposite setup depends on the lower boundary. A break below $2,370 would weaken the current range and expose ETH crypto to a deeper move toward the $2,000 area.

ETH futures positioning also shows continued market activity around the current range. Traders now watch whether price can secure a confirmed break above resistance or lose the support zone that has contained recent pullbacks.
