Coinbase expanded its partnership with Citigroup on Sept. 28 as both companies moved deeper into stablecoin payment infrastructure. The arrangement connects Coinbase Payments with Citi banking services for corporate and institutional clients.
COIN stock nevertheless closed lower at $191.79 during Monday’s session. Citigroup shares also fell, leaving investors to weigh the payment expansion against broader market factors and each company’s existing valuation.
Coinbase Partnership Adds Fiat and Stablecoin Payment Rails
Coinbase has partnered with Citigroup to expand payment infrastructure for businesses using fiat currencies and stablecoins. The exchange will use Citi’s Virtual Account Wallet to support Coinbase Virtual Accounts. The service allows customers to receive, hold, and send fiat funds while converting incoming payments into stablecoins.
Citi will also use Coinbase payment rails through its Spring by Citi platform. The service will allow institutional clients to accept stablecoin payments while receiving settlement in fiat.
The partnership builds on the companies’ collaboration announced in 2025. Their latest services focus on connecting conventional banking accounts with blockchain-based payment networks. Both firms plan to introduce the new capabilities in the U.S. market before developing additional services.
COIN Stock Price Prediction
COIN stock closed at $191.79 on September 28. The stock opened at $196.09 and reached an intraday high of $198.78. COIN stock also touched a low of $191.10 before ending the session near the lower part of the day’s range.

The one-day chart shows selling pressure after the stock failed to hold the $198 area. COIN then moved lower through the afternoon and finished below the previous close of $195.11.
COIN stock moving back above $195.11 could place attention on the $198 session high. A break above that level would give traders a new short-term reference point. If selling pushes the stock below $191.10, the chart would show further weakness in the immediate session.
Citigroup also traded lower during the session referenced in the reports. The stock fell about 2% to $131, while the company continued to expand its digital payment services. Citi has developed products that connect its banking network with blockchain-based systems for institutional clients.

The bank’s payment operations include services such as Citi Token Services, Spring by Citi, and 24/7 USD Clearing. The Coinbase partnership adds stablecoin payment acceptance to that broader digital payments strategy.
Citi will provide banking infrastructure, while Coinbase will handle the stablecoin payment rails and related conversion process.
U.S. Launch Puts Focus on Stablecoin Payments
The new services will initially operate in the United States. Coinbase customers can use virtual accounts for fiat payment activity, while Citi’s institutional clients can accept stablecoin payments through Spring by Citi.
The arrangement gives businesses a way to use stablecoins without creating separate systems for digital asset custody and conversion. Coinbase will convert supported digital assets into fiat for settlement, while Citi provides the banking infrastructure needed for the transaction flow.
The companies have not announced a specific timeline for a wider rollout in the information provided.
