Key Insights:
- U.S. CPI drops to 2.3%, below 2.4% forecast.
- Bitcoin holds above $103K amid cooling inflation data.
- ETF inflows continue as Fed rate-cut bets fade.
The U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.2% in April, coming in below the 0.3% forecast. Year-on-year, inflation cooled to 2.3%, the lowest increase since Feb. 2021. Traders quickly priced in the data, pushing crypto markets higher and sending Bitcoin (BTC) past $103,000.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s softer trade stance and easing CPI pressures have lifted risk sentiment. Investors now anticipate fewer Federal Reserve rate cuts, but remain bullish on digital assets amid continued institutional inflows and strong ETF performance.
Consumer Price Index (CPI) Undershoots Forecasts, Easing Pressure on Federal Reserve
The U.S. Consumer Price Index rose 0.2% in April, below the 0.3% consensus forecast. Annual inflation slowed to 2.3%, marking the smallest 12-month increase since Feb. 2021. Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, remained steady at 2.8%.
Shelter accounted for over half of the monthly increase, rising 0.3%. The food index declined 0.1% in April, driven by a 12.7% drop in egg prices and a broader decline across grocery categories. Meanwhile, energy prices rose 0.7%, led by gains in natural gas and electricity.

Commenting on the release, market watcher Ash Crypto posted on X that the softer-than-expected figure is “bullish” for risk assets, citing the 2.3% print versus the 2.4% expectation. The release briefly pushed U.S. equity futures higher and contributed to a renewed bid across crypto markets.
Markets responded quickly. S&P 500 futures edged higher, while Bitcoin reversed early-week losses to test near-term resistance. Ahead of the data, traders had priced in just 8% odds of a June Fed rate cut. That figure now stands at 39% for July, sharply down from 78% last week.
While CPI services rose 0.3%, used car prices unexpectedly fell 0.5%, and airfares declined 2.8%. These figures tempered overall inflation concerns and helped ease pressure on the Fed’s policy path.
Bitcoin Clears $100K Amid ETF Flows, Institutional Demand
Bitcoin jumped nearly 20% over the past month, reclaiming the $100,000 level last seen in Feb. ETF inflows continued, with nearly $1 billion entering U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs last week alone. Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, added 13,390 BTC for $1.34 billion, raising its holdings to 568,840 BTC.
Analysts at Bitfinex noted that the latest rally reflects more than short-term optimism.

They added that ETF flows now operate independently of retail sentiment, with structural demand driving marginal price discovery. “The demand appears mechanical, driven by portfolio mandates and allocation models,” Bitfinex stated.

CoinShares echoed this view in a recent report. It said total inflows have reached $6.7 billion in 2025, nearing the $7.3 billion peak from Feb. This ongoing institutional demand has established a base above $100,000, fueling expectations for further upside.
Trump’s Trade Policy Still a Wildcard
Trump’s recent de-escalation on tariff rhetoric helped stabilize markets, but not all analysts are convinced of a lasting rally. James Toledano, COO at Unity Wallet, warned that Bitcoin’s strength may be “sentiment-driven,” calling the rebound “hollow” without stronger fundamentals.
The new U.S.-China trade deal reduced tariffs from 145% to 30%, a major shift from earlier policy. This development, paired with CPI easing, gives risk assets more room to climb—even as Treasury yields and deficits loom.
Toledano noted that crypto has emerged as a hedge during traditional market stress.
Bitcoin Bulls Hold Ground As CPI Strengthens Case
Despite macroeconomic crosswinds, Bitcoin’s price structure remains bullish. The cryptocurrency has outperformed equities in recent weeks, and ETF activity suggests continued allocation by large funds. With inflation cooling and monetary policy steadying, traders see room for further gains.
Bitfinex analysts believe Bitcoin is primed for a fresh leg up.
Still, sentiment remains cautious. Analysts agree that any sustained rally will require more than soft inflation prints. Regulatory clarity, continued ETF demand, and consistent macro support will be critical in pushing Bitcoin past the $110,000 mark.
