Key Insights:
- BlackRock added 8,000 Bitcoin in a single day.
- Bitcoin ETF inflows now rival early gold ETF demand.
- Institutional buying is fueling the next bullish phase.
BlackRock expanded its Bitcoin ETF holdings on May 22, 2025, adding 8,000 BTC worth approximately $877.2 million. This marked the largest single-day inflow to its IBIT fund this month and highlighted the pace of institutional adoption. The move pushed IBIT’s total Bitcoin holdings to more than 643,974 BTC, valued at over $67 billion.
Institutional Demand for Bitcoin Remains Strong
BlackRock’s recent purchase of an additional 8,000 Bitcoin, valued at $877.2 million, marks the largest single-day inflow into its spot Bitcoin ETF this month. This acquisition builds on a series of consistent inflows into BlackRock’s IBIT ETF throughout May, reinforcing its aggressive accumulation strategy. The fund now holds over 643,974 BTC, with an estimated market value of $71 billion, positioning it as the largest known institutional holder of Bitcoin aside from dormant wallets such as that of Satoshi Nakamoto.

Throughout May, BlackRock has demonstrated sustained institutional demand through its regular daily purchases. Between May 1 and May 22, the ETF recorded inflows on 14 separate trading days. Notable inflows include $877 million on May 22, $538 million on May 21, $287 million on May 20, and $305 million on May 19. These repeated entries highlight not only the scale of BlackRock’s position but also the consistency of its investment strategy in Bitcoin.
Other companies are following a similar path. Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), led by Michael Saylor, recently announced plans to raise $2.1 billion through the sale of 10% preferred stock. The proceeds are expected to be used for further Bitcoin purchases, continuing the firm’s high-conviction accumulation strategy.
Likewise, Metaplanet and other corporate entities have also been expanding their exposure to Bitcoin in recent months.
This steady stream of institutional capital into Bitcoin suggests a shift in market perception. Rather than opportunistic buying, these consistent inflows reflect long-term strategic positioning by major financial institutions.
BlackRock’s year-to-date inflows already surpass what gold ETFs brought in during their initial twelve months, indicating that Bitcoin is becoming increasingly accepted as a store of value in traditional finance.
Bitcoin Price Remains Bullish Despite Overbought Signals
Trading near $110,800, Bitcoin is close to its recent high of $111,816. Even though the price dipped on the day just a little, the overall movement has still risen. According to the Supertrend indicator, the area of $102,561 is still being supported, which means the bullish pattern is still intact.

The RSI indicator is currently at the 74.34 level, indicating that the market is already overbought. As a result, price is likely to consolidate or slight retracements are likely to be seen. The MFI is at 57.25, meaning that there is a positive inflow of capital but mixed buying intensity.
At the same time, the Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) is showing that some sellers are entering the market, although prices are near their recent highs.
Fear & Greed Index Entered Extreme Greed Territory
At press time, the Bitcoin Fear & Greed Index registered 78, placing it in “Extreme Greed” territory. Historically, such readings followed strong rallies or preceded brief consolidations during uptrends.

Greed typically accompanied sustained momentum in prior bull markets. The current combination of ETF inflows and strong technical signals supported that outlook. Investor psychology remained optimistic, even at current valuation levels.
Analysts See $260K Target in 2025 as Institutional Interest Mounts
Market analyst 0xChiefy believes bitcoin is entering a strong phase of continued growth. A review of charts confirms that each rise in the price of bitcoin seems to follow a parabolic shape, reaching high points at $1,200, $14,000, and $59,000. The next projected peak is $260,000 by mid-2025, based on historical growth curves.

The timing of the forecast matches that of the current cycle and current BTC buying. According to analysts, the market is behaving as it usually has after the halving. With bitcoin continuing in this manner, analysts predict that prices of $800K and then $1.9M will be possible in future cycles.
At the same time, the amount of open interest in bitcoin derivatives markets has hit $56 billion, which is the highest it’s ever been since late 2024. Although prices have risen, the recent upswing came from trading in several cryptos, proving how strong institutional buying remains.
