House Proposes $1.1B BTC Pivot to Offset Financial Losses
Vanadi Coffee SA, a well-known Spanish coffee brand, is preparing a strategic pivot toward becoming a Bitcoin-first company. According to a report from local media outlet Alicanteplaza, the company’s chairman, Salvador Martí, has proposed acquiring up to $1.13 billion worth of Bitcoin. Consequently, it plans to use a model inspired by MicroStrategy’s corporate Bitcoin strategy.
Notably, the proposal is expected to be reviewed by Vanadi’s board on June 29. It seeks to transform the financially troubled coffee chain into a digital asset-focused enterprise.
In addition, the company reported financial difficulties in 2024, and Martí then presented the plan to acquire Bitcoin. The Spanish Coffee House announced a loss of $3.7 million, and its stock (VANA) has fallen sharply since the initial public offering.
Vanadi is considering a pivot strategy where its future growth is guided by Bitcoin appreciation, as opposed to just its retail business.
Chairman’s Proposal Follows Vanadi’s Financial Decline
More so, concerns about Vanadi’s market performance have been raised by investors. After being listed on the market at €3.28 ($3.73) in July 2023, VANA has lost more than 91% and is now worth €0.28 ($0.32). The continuous losses and drop in share price made the chairman seek out new strategies.
Furthermore, Martí’s proposal goes beyond a simple hedge or reserve allocation. He suggested the board allow him to use convertible financing to raise funds and to devote all those funds toward buying BTC as a way to overcome certain losses experienced by the company.
Firms do this by issuing new shares and using the funds to purchase and store Bitcoin for a long period. For the sake of urgency, the chairman asked for complete power to negotiate money matters related to the plan.
The plan, like that of MicroStrategy and recently GameStop, fits into a wider trend among corporations of holding Bitcoin instead of cash reserves. Martí noted that adopting a BTC strategy could help Vanadi be valued higher and catch the attention of investors who are eager to use Bitcoin in new financial strategies.
Early Bitcoin Purchase Sparks Stock Recovery
Ahead of the broader investment, Vanadi initiated a pilot purchase of 5 BTC. The company reportedly acquired the Bitcoin at an average cost of $527,110. Following this announcement, Vanadi’s stock briefly surged to €0.49 ($0.56), up from €0.40 ($0.46) just a day earlier on May 21.
When BTC dropped from about $111,000 to $105,000 in the given timeframe, VANA’s shares dropped as well, showing how much their price depends on Bitcoin. Many wonder about the risks connected to using a strategy that revolves around the correlation of Vanadi and Bitcoin. Even so, Martí is determined to proceed and thinks Bitcoin exposure could play a vital role in reaching financial stability.
Technical Outlook on Bitcoin Price
