XRP Set for Breakout as Japan’s Megabank Backs XRP Ledger

Key Insights

  • SBI Group confirms 9% Ripple stake, backing XRP in cross-border remittance and NFT use cases
  • XRP set to break downward channel soon, with 18% rally likely as volume and open interest surge
  • RLUSD stablecoin by Ripple set for SBI support, signaling institutional push into XRP Ledger utility

XRP is gaining strong momentum as Japan’s SBI Group deepens its Ripple partnership, backing stablecoin RLUSD and expanding XRP’s ecosystem use cases.

With bullish technical signals and rising real-world adoption, XRP now eyes a significant breakout ahead.

SBI Group Expands Ripple Partnership and RLUSD Strategy

Japan’s biggest financial institution, SBI Group, has stepped up its support for Ripple by highlighting its XRP integration into a variety of financial services.

The company has a 9% stake in Ripple Labs, officially making it the biggest external shareholder in the company. This has been a long-standing partnership that is a critical pillar in the institutional foundation and global use case expansion of the token.

SBI has helped lead the adoption of XRP for cross-border money transfers through their joint venture, SBI Ripple Asia.

Since 2021, SBI Remit has been providing Japan’s first remittance service based on XRP to allow individuals and businesses to transfer funds quickly and affordably across borders.

Now the firm has confirmed XRP’s utility beyond payments by announcing that NFTs issued on the XRP Ledger will also be featured at the upcoming Expo 2025 in Osaka.

SBI is also looking into integrating Ripple’s newly announced stablecoin RLUSD, along with expanding XRP use in Asia. The asset will be issued in the United States, and RLUSD will be discussed for inclusion in SBI VC Trade.

The XRP Ledger would play a greater role in tokenized assets and stable settlements across global networks through this stablecoin that would bridge regulated finance and the blockchain.

XRP Technical Setup Suggests a Breakout is Near

Market structure and trader behaviour are supporting XRP’s technical indicators that show the crypto is ready for a strong price move.

On the 4-hour chart, XRP price is close to breaking out of a falling wedge, a pattern that often precedes bullish reversals. Measured breakout targets suggest an 18% rally up to the $2.60–$2.80 level.

On the monthly chart, the token is forming a rounded bottom pattern with the resistance lines now invalidated. This setup is called a “coffee cup” formation, which often precedes extended upward moves.

If macro catalysts line up, the Fibonacci extension levels are price targets at $3.61 (161.8%) and even $5.85 (261.8%). Furthermore, the Ichimoku Cloud has thinned, which means that there is less resistance overhead and higher potential for trend continuation.

The derivatives market backs up these technical observations with volume up 170.90% to $4.49 billion. Open interest surged 11.38% while options open interest rose by over 33%.

Real-World Use Cases and XRP ETF Speculation Strengthen Outlook

The cryptocurrency is gaining traction in real-world applications and is going beyond technicals and trading volume, which is another layer of strength to the market outlook.

XRP is being adopted in non-financial sectors in Japan as real estate transactions start accepting XRP as payment. Also, Dubai, one of the world’s fastest growing tech hubs, is also utilizing the XRP Ledger to tokenize property markets.

One other major thing to watch is Ripple’s strategic buyback program. The company is buying back the token from the open market and moving it to institutional partners.

This is not just about price support, but to move supply from retail into long-term custody and therefore increasing liquidity for enterprise use cases. Speculation in the community suggests that this buyback is a part of the plans to make XRP infrastructure for large financial systems.

Meanwhile, a critical regulatory decision is looming. Franklin Templeton’s Spot XRP ETF is expected to get a ruling from the SEC by June 17, 2025. That would be a big step in institutional flows, and it would also lift XRP’s credibility in the mainstream markets.

All of these factors, combined with stablecoin initiatives like RLUSD and ongoing international adoption, put XRP on track to grow at an accelerated pace in the coming months.
