Firm Grows BTC Stash to 11,111 Coins Worth Over $1.1 Billion
Japanese-listed Metaplanet Inc. has acquired 1,111 additional Bitcoin (BTC) for approximately $118.2 million, bringing its total holdings to 11,111 BTC as of June 23. The company disclosed the purchase in a formal filing, stating an average acquisition cost of 15,535,502 yen—or roughly $105,681—per Bitcoin.

The purchase took place as Bitcoin briefly dropped below $100,000 during the weekend following U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Bitcoin has since recovered, trading at around $101,800 at the time of publication.
Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Strategy Despite Geopolitical Tensions
The latest BTC addition aligns with Metaplanet’s broader accumulation strategy, which it disclosed in previous investor updates. The firm’s overall Bitcoin purchases now total roughly 156.4 billion yen, or about $1.07 billion, based on an average entry price of $95,869 per BTC.
Simon Gerovich, Metaplanet’s Representative Director, confirmed the transaction and stated that the company has achieved a year-to-date BTC Yield of 306.7% in 2025. According to official records, the BTC Yield rose from 95.6% in Q1 to 107.9% in Q2, measured against fully diluted share metrics.
“Metaplanet has acquired 1,111 BTC for ~$118.2 million at ~$106,408 per bitcoin,” Gerovich posted on June 23 via X. “As of 6/23/2025, we hold 11,111 $BTC acquired for ~$1.07 billion.”

The BTC Yield metric tracks the percentage growth in BTC holdings per fully diluted share. It is intended to provide shareholders a benchmark for the company’s performance in managing its Bitcoin treasury.
MetaPlanet Stock Falls Despite Strategic Expansion
Despite the purchase and aggressive long-term vision, Metaplanet’s stock declined 6% in Tokyo trading on June 23. Analysts attributed the dip to broader market uncertainty following the United States’ escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict. Iran’s retaliatory move to shut the Strait of Hormuz further worsened risk sentiment across global markets.

According to market data, Metaplanet shares fell to 1,712 yen, erasing some of the gains made earlier in the year. The company’s stock had previously surged nearly 400% year-to-date, driven by institutional buying from players like Capital Group and Citigroup.
The current sell-off appears tied more to geopolitical instability than concerns over Metaplanet’s treasury approach. Bitcoin itself saw a rapid drop to $98,000 over the weekend before bouncing back above $101,000 as investors weighed macro risks.
BTC Yield Becomes Key Shareholder Metric
Metaplanet’s updated investor filing includes detailed calculations of its BTC Yield, BTC Gain, and Yen-denominated value across quarterly periods. From July to Sept. 2024, the company posted a BTC Yield of 41.7%, which rose to 309.8% in Q4.
As of June 23, BTC per fully diluted share had increased to 0.0146377, up from just 0.0008781 on Sept. 30, 2024. BTC Gain (quarter-to-date) also jumped to 4,367 BTC, translating to over ¥66.1 billion ($418 million) in local currency terms.
The company’s capital strategy has involved multiple share issuances and bond placements with EVO FUND. According to the filing, Metaplanet completed the 13th through 17th Series of Stock Acquisition Rights in early 2025 and received proceeds totaling JPY 4 billion from the 6th Series of Ordinary Bonds on Feb. 10.
The funds were allocated directly to its Bitcoin treasury operations. “This methodology ensures the most accurate and fair measurement of dilution,” the company wrote in its notes, aligning with U.S. capital market reporting standards.
Metaplanet Eyes Spot in Top Five BTC Corporates
Following this latest accumulation, Metaplanet surpassed Hut 8 in total Bitcoin holdings, becoming the eighth-largest corporate BTC holder globally. Industry observers expect more purchases in the coming weeks as the firm reportedly targets a total of 210,000 BTC by 2027—roughly 1% of total supply.

Commenting on the pace of acquisitions, @BitcoinRachy posted: “This Metaplanet purchase was a baby buy, the calm before the real storm.”
Although that outlook remains speculative, the firm’s trajectory suggests further capital deployments are likely. For now, Metaplanet’s growing BTC position continues to draw attention as both a financial strategy and a hedge amid rising global uncertainty.
