Cardano’s Market Dominance Sinks Despite cbADA Launch On Base

Key Insights:

  • Cardano’s market dominance has dropped to 0.6%, the lowest level over eight months.
  • Coinbase’s introduction of cbADA provides Cardano with a bridge to Ethereum’s Layer 2 Base network.
  • ADA remains below neckline resistance, with weak volume and technical indicators reflecting low investor confidence and market indecision.

Cardano experienced a drop in market cap dominance to 0.6, the lowest over eight months. Based on Messari stats, this mark has gradually dropped since its local maximum of over 1.2% in March 2025.

This signifies a persistent reduction of market share compared to the crypto market as a whole. It is despite introducing cbADA wrapped ADA tokens on its Layer 2 Base network. This could create new liquidity avenues to Cardano in the modular Ethereum ecosystem.

On June 26, Coinbase created cbADA and cbLTC on its Base network. These wrapped assets individually depict ADA and Litecoin (LTC) and are merged 1:1-safeguarded by reserves on a chain.

Bridge projects will bring older Layer 1 assets into Ethereum’s expanding multi-chain ecosystem. This move positions Base as a central hub for liquidity. The step is part of Coinbase’s broader movement to introduce modular liquidity rails between blockchains.

cbADA gives Cardano a way to connect with Ethereum Layer 2. However, its launch didn’t boost investor interest or price recovery.

The ADA market hasn’t shown short-term gains from the rollout. Broader market sentiment and internal pricing factors still dominate its performance.

Price Lags Expansion Amid Mixed Technical Outlook

Cardano, looking to pair up with Chainlink, is currently sold at $0.5643. It has lost 2.79% in the last 24 hours, and the market cap is 19.96 billion.

According to CoinMarketCap, it has a 24-hour trading volume of 657.74 million. It has shown an 8.71 percent increase. However, this volume surge has not gathered momentum to reverse the trend.

The V/M ratio is 3.29%, which shows moderate activity, considering Cardano’s total capitalization. The token has a high circulating supply of 35.37 billion out of 45 billion maximum circulation.

This makes it one of the more distributed assets in protocols on the top layer. Nevertheless, such supply indicators have not helped to avoid the recent erosion of prices on ADA.

The price hit a daily high of 0.5786 on June 26. By midday, it had dropped to around 0.564. The 4-hour chart shows a potential inverse head and shoulders forming.

This pattern is developing between June 15 and June 26. Technically, this pattern is considered to be a bullish reversal pattern. The neckline resistance is estimated at around 0.575. If the pattern completes, the price target could rise above 0.65.

However, ADA is close to its previous support level and has not broken above the neckline with conviction. Currently, it is trading below the main level of resistance.

This suggests indecisions regarding the confirmation of the bullish momentum. In addition, the Money Flow Index (MFI) shows that it is at 32.96. This allows assuming that the token is not overbalanced but is getting closer to the oversold range.

The readings of Volume Oscillator also indicate low confidence in the recent upwards efforts, indicating -0.52%. Despite a technical reversal setup, market activity remains limited. This lack of movement has yet to confirm a strong, momentum-backed reversal.

Market Cap Dominance Chart Underscores Broader Weakness

Messari’s one-year market cap dominance chart reveals key trends. Cardano held the top position in December 2024. It reached that peak again in March 2025.

Then it experienced a downward trend that lasted a long time. The March peak was above 1.2%, after the arguments during the scalability debates of Ethereum.

The token’s share of the crypto market has gradually declined since then. At the same time, capital has been shifting toward Ethereum Layer 2s, Solana, and Bitcoin ETFs.

Cardano’s dominance rate has dropped to 0.6%, nearly half of what it was in March. This level matches its lowest point back in October 2023.

Despite tech developments and token bridging, the platform remains under pressure. It continues to face tough competition in the broader Layer 1 landscape.

The appearance of cbADA may enhance the cross-chain connectivity, especially for the DeFi EVM-dependent platforms. In 2025, the Base network built using the OP stack gained quick adoption.

Adding ADA to this ecosystem unlocks new possibilities. It enables use cases like staking derivatives and lending. Token swaps also become more accessible and efficient.
