Key Insights:
- The total altcoin market cap formed a higher low, nearing the key 2024 resistance for a breakout.
- Altcoin dominance structure matches the 2021 rally phase, signaling potential capital rotation.
- Multi-year resistance retested after 4 years, historically preceding strong altcoin surges.
The altcoin market may be entering a critical phase as charts repeat patterns last seen in 2021. The historical resistance and dominance levels have recently matched with a potential macro breakout. Analysts believe a confirmed move could trigger the next altseason.
Market Cap Recovery Signals Strong Altseason
Daan Crypto Trades highlighted that the total altcoin market cap has made a higher low on its recent bounce. This formation indicated that bullish sentiment has been intact in the total market. This suggests the altseason is coming.
This happened despite the volatility expected in the short term. The key level now lies at the 2024 high and May’s local peak, just above the $1.2 trillion mark.

However, a breach of this level might serve as a confirmation of a higher high. This would formally reinstate a bullish high-time-frame structure in altcoins. Historically, these patterns have been followed by powerful surges in the middle and small-cap tokens.
Furthermore, this formation resembled the Altcoin rally in early 2021. At that time, a flip of the double bottom and resistance led to an extended surge.
Momentum indicators also depict squeezing consolidation. This makes breaking out more probable than rejection. With the volume increasing at such moderate rates, traders eagerly await confirmation.
Resistance Line Touch Sparks Altseason Hopes
Meanwhile, analyst Moustache pointed out a multi-year resistance trendline. This black line, last touched in 2021, has historically preceded major altcoin market rallies. The pattern showed resistance touches in 2019, 2020, and 2021, each followed by a broad altcoin breakout.

Today, in 2025, that resistance has been tapped once again. If history repeats, the market could be nearing the early stages of a full altseason. The chart provided alongside shows how these touches have resulted in growth cycles of months.
Furthermore, Moustache emphasized that “Altseason isn’t just a meme.” This highlights how technical setups often outweigh sentiment. The breakout window also aligns with broader macro shifts in investor risk appetite and capital rotation away from Bitcoin.
This repetitive pattern provides good technical confluence, particularly on longer time frames. As similar conditions repeat, the likelihood of a breakout increases as the resistance is tested multiple times.
Fractals and Dominance Patterns Support Altcoin Rotation
Adding further weight to the altcoin rally thesis, CryptoFeras shared a macro fractal chart. This chart shows consistent cycles in altcoin dominance and momentum.
The historical zones of Alts Max Pain and Cycle Top have been preserved throughout the cycles since 2018. Every past altseason began when dominance rebounded off support zones into these upper thresholds.

Currently, the structure mirrors early 2020 and 2021. This suggests that altcoins are now entering the pre-altseason build-up phase. Notably, the timing aligned with Bitcoin’s recent price consolidation. It often leads to capital flowing into altcoins.
In addition, several L2, DeFi, and AI tokens have already shown signs of early strength. This is a common signal before broader altcoin breakouts.
According to the fractal model, when dominance exceeds 54%, a full-scale rally may unravel within a short time. At the current levels of about 52%, the environment is turning toward continuation on the upper side.
Bitcoin Dominance Breakdown Could Trigger Altseason
Additionally, Anup Dhungana analyzed Bitcoin dominance. It continues to trade within a tightening bearish wedge on the weekly chart.
A couple of sharp spikes have not been broken above key resistance. However, dominance has yet to break above resistance. More so, each attempted breakout has been reversed.

He added that despite the breakout, there are still great chances of rejection and the move back to the wedge. Failed breakouts have often led to a drop in market dominance. These declines usually sparked a surge in altcoin performance.
Notably, when Bitcoin dominance hits peak exhaustion, this would be a strong indicator of a capital rotation phase. This drives altseason. Altcoins shine when Bitcoin shows signs of weakness. During these times, traders often focus on smaller assets seeking higher returns.
