Key Insights:
- XRP price futures hit $1B OI on CME in only 3 months after launching.
- Gemini introduces XRP credit with cashback benefits.
- XRP is still in a downtrend, but there are positive developments in the Ripple ecosystem.
Chicago-based trading giant CME Group has announced that XRP has reached a new milestone in futures Open Interest (OI).
With this, investors are optimistic that XRP’s surging OI on CME would prepare the coin for a breakout soon.
This coincided with the launch of a Gemini XRP card, as spotlighted by Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
XRP Price Crosses $1B in OI on CME
According to recent data, XRP futures have crossed the $1 billion open interest milestone on CME. This is a huge feat for XRP, which only went live on CME in May 2025.
Accordingly, XRP has become the fastest contract to hit the $1 billion OI mark on the CME derivatives marketplace.
XRP climbing faster than other crypto assets on CME suggests a reshuffling from other top blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Besides XRP, other major cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL), recorded fresh record highs in futures OI on CME. Both Solana futures and ETH options have individually crossed $1 billion in OI.
Meanwhile, the Chicago-based trading giant noted that total notional open interest has surpassed $30 billion across CME’s crypto products. This includes Bitcoin futures at approximately $16 billion and Ethereum futures at $10.5 billion.

The rising OI on CME points to new capital entering the market from traditional finance players.
Unlike offshore exchanges, the CME offers transparency, lower counterparty risk, and integration with broader portfolios.
For XRP, hitting the $1 billion OI milestone faster than other contracts suggests prices may start to move in an uptrend. Higher open interest means tighter spreads and reduced execution risk for large trades.
Gemini Unveils XRP Card
Another development hot in the Ripple ecosystem is the launch of an XRP credit card by Gemini. Ripple CEO confirmed the development on X.
Garlinghouse stated that users can now utilize the special edition of the Gemini card for everyday purchases.

He added that the card gives holders up to 4% cashback in XRP with zero annual or FX fees.
Cardholders can also swap their rewards into BTC and more than 50 other cryptos anytime. Ripple also confirmed the Gemini XRP credit card supports its RLUSD stablecoin for fast trading.
The launch comes with Ripple backing Gemini’s IPO plans with a $150 million credit line. For Ripple, the credit card signals another step in mainstreaming XRP adoption.
XRP Price Outlook, Big Retest in View?
Despite impressive futures trading data, XRP is currently struggling to revive its bullish momentum. The Ripple-linked coin has plummeted back to $2.9, decreasing by 0.8% over the past 24 hours.
The XRP trading volume also remained in the red with fewer major activities from bullish and bearish investors. Over the past 24 hours, the trading volume decreased by 8% to $6.86 billion.
However, the slowdown in the XRP price chart follows a bearish trend in the broader market. Thus, a slight improvement in market sentiment could spark a turnaround in XRP price.
Some analysts even perceive the elevated OI as a sign of approval of a spot XRP exchange-traded fund (ETF).
They cited a similar sequence in futures depth for both Bitcoin and Ethereum. A possible XRP ETF launch would increase institutional adoption for the Ripple-backed coin, invariably leading to higher prices.
Notably, crypto journalist Rob Cunningham predicted that XRP could rally towards $15 in the short term. This prediction comes after Ripple acquired Hidden Road for $1.25 billion.
According to technical analysis, XRP has broken above the descending trendline, hinting at potential bullish momentum with an initial target at $3.64.
However, XRP price could continue on its downtrend back to $2.40 if it fails to hold key support.
