Altcoin Markets Stall Breakout as Bulls Continue to Push, Is an Altcoin Season on the Way?

The altcoin season is yet to validate a breakout with the total capitalization without Bitcoin being pegged at the $1.7 trillion resistance barrier. According to the latest market data, the total market value of altcoins has reached $1.69 trillion. It is approaching the upper limit of a long-term resistance band, which has traditionally served as a turning point in the sector.

As seen in the weekly chart, the prices are once again hitting the same price floor observed in early 2020 and mid-2024. The two cases sparked off hard denials. Nonetheless, the current test shows that consumers are resilient, with a slow upward trend over the last two months.

The trading volume has also gained some momentum and indicates fresh new involvement as the prices gather around the resistance level. The above 50-week moving average remains on an upward trend, with structural support beneath the $ 1.3 trillion mark, which marks the final accumulation level before the summer boom.

Altcoin Season Index Shows Mixed Reaction

Although no breakout has occurred, bulls are performing in various areas of the altcoins. Small and medium-cap token benefit has contributed to market sentiment maintenance, and Ethereum, Solana and Avalanche have recorded consistent and minor weekly gains.

This mixed environment is reflected in the Altcoin Season Index chart. In the last 90 days, the index has ranged between 48 and 75 meaning that we do not have a complete altseason of altcoins.

The association between the Altcoin Season Index (ASI) and Altcoin Market Cap (AMC) gives reason to believe that though capital rotation into altcoins has started, it is not evenly distributed and has not yet attained the explosive growth associated with proven altcoin seasons.

The balance between Bitcoin price and altcoin performance, which is also viewed as a neutral zone as the ASI currently stands at 48. This shows that Bitcoin is not leading the pack, yet the altcoins are reasserting their position with slow but steady gains. This trend tends to be followed by bigger market structural changes, as Bitcoin is likely to be stable.

ETH/BTC Signals Potential Leadership Shift

A key aspect of the current market dynamics is the ETH/BTC pair, which has shown signs of improvement after a prolonged period of decline. According to information provided by Swissblock Technologies, Ethereum has broken out of a short-term consolidation range, marking the potential start of a bullish reversal against Bitcoin.

The ETH/BTC correlation has broken out of its late-summer range in step with a period of stabilization in the Bitcoin dominance (BTC.D), which has been between 58% and 60% since September. The fact that Ethereum is recovering at a slower pace than Bitcoin shows that capital is slowly returning to Ethereum and, hence, large-cap altcoins.

This rotation is notable since the Ethereum price usually dominates the larger altcoin market in risk-on periods. If ETH/BTC continues to maintain its current momentum, Bitcoin may begin to experience outward liquidity to the altcoins.

Should ETH/BTC continue its recovery and form a positive impulse, capital rotation returns to ETH and large caps. Should the BTC dominance remain unruffled, it will be open to liquidity flowing out.
