The price of Ethereum (ETH) signaled a bearish outlook, as indicated by the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator.
Market participants are now watching to see how the price of ETH will react. Some analysts have predicted breakout targets of $6,000 to $7,000 this year
Bearish MACD Setup Forms on Ethereum Price Charts
A technical analyst, known as the “Titan of Crypto” on X, highlighted early signs of a possible bearish reversal in the ETH weekly price chart.
The analyst questioned whether the recent ETH upward push is fizzling out and turning bearish. To provide context, the ETH price surged past the upper boundary, around $4,400–$4,500, earlier this week.
This rally hinted at a bigger upward move toward the $5,000 level. However, the price experienced a pullback, currently trading around $3,994.
Titan of Crypto pointed out that although the week is yet to close, the MACD is currently crossing bearish.

MACD, a popular momentum indicator, plots the difference between two exponential moving averages.
A bullish cross happens when the MACD line crosses above the signal line. Conversely, when the MACD line crosses below the signal line, it suggests a bearish crossover.
On the ETH weekly chart, the MACD is flirting with this bearish crossover after weeks of bullish readings. This has not been fully confirmed since the week ends Sunday, but it is still a red flag.
A weekly close below the $3,900 support may validate the bearish shift. On the other hand, a bounce above $4,200 to $4,300 would resume the uptrend.
Institutional ETH Buyups Still Soaring
While Titan of Crypto expressed concern about a potential bearish outlook, another analyst, Ted Pillows, revealed institutions are still accumulating Ethereum.
As revealed by Ted Pillows, Bitmine has purchased an additional $418,000,000 worth of Ethereum coins.

Onchain data tracker Arkham Intelligence confirmed the latest ETH purchase. BitMine received the ETH across three new wallet addresses through seven transactions from Kraken and BitGo exchanges.
In total, BitMine purchased approximately 104,336 ETH at an average price of 4,000 per coin.
BitMine has continued to buy ETH since pivoting from Bitcoin mining in June 2025. The firm is now the world’s largest corporate Ethereum holder, with a total of 3,032,188 ETH.
In September, Bitmine, led by Tom Lee, acquired 252,441 ETH over three days, pushing its total holdings to 2.202 million ETH.
Other top corporate holders of Ethereum include SharpLink, Bit Digital, and Coinbase.
Will Ethereum Price Repeat History?
Amid the rising institutional accumulation, one analyst noted that the current ETH price mirrors a historic bullish trend in Bitcoin (BTC).
Analyst Crypto Bullet on X shared a BTC 2024 weekly/monthly candle overlaid on the ETH 2025 chart.
The analyst claimed ETH has formed the exact same pattern as the BTC 2024 bullish trend. Thus, he foresees an ETH price breakout between $6,000 and $7,000 by the end of 2025.
Both the ETH and BTC charts shared by Crypto Bullet have formed a multi-month triangle.
Bitcoin started 2024 consolidating around $40,000–$45,000. Post the April halving, BTC tested around $60,000 to $70,000 by mid-year.
By summer, the price surged to a high $65,000 before climbing to $100,000 following the November U.S. election.
As regards ETH, the price formed a tight range around $4,200. Since breakout volume played a key role for BTC, ETH needs a similar move to confirm a potential rally.
At press time, ETH is priced at $4,001, down 0.5% over the previous day.
