Ethereum Price Slowly Forms a Bullish Pattern as Tom Lee Makes His Case

Ethereum price has moved into a bear market this month as the crypto market crash accelerated. It dropped to a multi-month low of $2,954, a 38% decline from its highest level this year. It has formed a bullish pattern as Tom Lee makes the bullish case for the coin.

Ethereum Price Technical Analysis as a Bullish Pattern Forms

The daily chart shows ETH in a clear downward trend over recent months. This drop aligns with the broader crypto market crash that has hit Bitcoin and major altcoins.

Ether has already slipped below the 50-day and 200-day moving averages. It has not formed a death cross yet. On the positive side, ETH now shows a slowly developing falling wedge pattern.

A falling wedge forms when two descending trendlines converge over time. Prices usually rebound when the lines near convergence.

The Relative Strength Index has also dropped toward the oversold level at 30. This setup often leads to a potential bullish divergence.

ETH could bounce toward the upper boundary of the wedge near $3,300. A breakout above that level would signal more upward momentum. It may then target the psychological zone near $4,000, which sits about 30% above the current price.

A move below the wedge support at $2,900 would invalidate the bullish view. That breakdown could push ETH toward $2,500, a major support area.

Tom Lee is Highly Optimistic on Ethereum

Meanwhile, Tom Lee, the founder of FundStrat and chairman of BitMEX, recently made the case for Ethereum. He said this as he continued to accumulate coin, with BitMine holding 3.6 million tokens currently valued at over $10.8 billion.

In his statement, Lee explained that the ongoing Ethereum price crash is happening because of large liquidation event that happened in October. On that day, Ethereum positions worth over $3.8 billion were liquidated in one of the worst days in the crypto industry.

As such, he believes that most of the bruised investors have largely remained in the sidelines as they wait for another catalyst and a well-defined trend.

Lee also believes that the crypto bull run is still ongoing in this cycle, which is expected to last between 12 and 36 months, a move that will benefit Ethereum and other tokens.

At the same time, Tom Lee identified several tailwinds that will positively impact the Ethereum price in the coming months. For example, he pointed to the upcoming Fusaka upgrade, which will be activated soon. Fusaka will introduce key features, including peer data availability sampling, verkle tree, and blob parameter only. It is common for a cryptocurrency to rally ahead and after a major network upgrade.

Additionally, Tom Lee argues that Ethereum has a major role in emerging technologies that will dominate the future. He pointed to the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization industry, and stablecoins.

Data compiled by RWA shows that Ethereum dominates the RWA industry with over $11 billion in assets, giving it a market share of 64%. Avalanche C-Chain, the second-biggest player in the industry, has less than $1 billion in assets.

Some of the biggest players in Ethereum’s RWA ecosystem are BlackRock’s BUIDL, Circle’s USYC, and Janus Henderson Anemoy Treasury Fund.

Meanwhile, Ethereum is the most dominant player in the stablecoin industry, with billions of dollars in assets, including popular coins like USDC and USDT.

Summary

The Ethereum price has been in a strong downward trend over the past few months, erasing some of the gains it made earlier this year. This sell-off could be about to end now that it has formed a falling wedge pattern, which is characterized by two descending and converging trendlines. It also has some important catalysts, including its market share in industries like real-world asset tokenization and stablecoins.
