Bitcoin Price USD Faces $62K Test as Selling Pressure Builds

Bitcoin traded near $63,856 on Aug. 3 after defending its 200-week moving average. Bitstamp data showed buyers protected $62,216 during the session. However, rising exchange balances and positive funding kept renewed selling risk active.

The setup mattered because leverage had already contracted during June’s decline.

Bitstamp’s session range showed buyers reacted quickly below $63,000. Yet the recovery failed to clear the prior resistance band. That response preserved support without reversing the broader downtrend. It also kept short-term positioning sensitive to exchange inflows and futures leverage.

Fresh long positioning now faced increasing spot supply near falling-wedge resistance. That combination weakened the case for an immediate recovery.

Bitcoin Price USD Holds Above Its Weekly Trend Gauge

TradingView’s Bitstamp chart showed Bitcoin opening near $63,500 on Aug. 3. The asset reached $64,024 before falling toward $62,216. It later recovered above $63,800, producing a modest daily gain.

Daan Crypto Trades said Bitcoin closed another week above its 200-week moving average. He also calculated a 7% gain during July. However, he expected choppy trading during the month’s opening weeks.

The trader said monthly highs or lows often formed within two weeks. July’s low arrived on the month’s first day. That pattern placed added attention on early-August volatility.

Bitcoin price today remained below a descending resistance line near $65,000. The chart also showed stronger resistance around $66,500. Buyers would require sustained closes above both levels to improve the structure.

Daily candles had repeatedly failed near the upper boundary since July. That behavior showed sellers remained active during rebounds. The June low near $59,600 remained the wider structure’s main downside reference.

Bitcoin Price USD Remains Trapped Inside a Falling Wedge

Daan Crypto Trades described Bitcoin as approaching the wedge’s upper trend line. He said a larger advance required a confirmed breakout. A brief wick above resistance would not meet that condition.

The Bitstamp chart supported that assessment. Bitcoin remained below a declining blue resistance line near $65,000. A separate long-term trend indicator stood near $77,489, far above current prices.

Immediate resistance sat between $64,500 and $65,200. The next technical barrier appeared near $66,500. Above that area, Fibonacci levels marked possible resistance near $68,000 and $72,000.

Support remained concentrated between $62,000 and $63,000. The chart placed another support near $59,595. A daily close beneath $62,000 would expose that lower zone.

This structure left the bitcoin price today between declining resistance and horizontal support. Compression often precedes wider movement, but direction remained unconfirmed. Traders still required a closing breakout rather than intraday volatility.

On-Chain Data Raises Distribution Risk

Novaque Research said Bitcoin’s June decline removed considerable leverage. Open interest fell toward $22.4 billion, below its 100-day average. The firm interpreted that decline as deleveraging rather than complete capitulation.

Short-term-holder Spent Output Profit Ratio readings repeatedly dropped below one. That measure indicated recent buyers sold coins at losses. However, Novaque said the metric later returned near breakeven.

The firm reported funding near 0.006 while exchange netflows turned positive. Net inflows reached roughly 2,900 Bitcoin, while exchange reserves approached 2.72 million coins. Those readings suggested traders rebuilt long exposure as sellable inventory increased.

Whale Factor separately reported that 32,000 Bitcoin reached exchanges at losses. The account described that movement as the largest short-term-holder capitulation event in 30 days. The claim aligned with Novaque’s assessment, though neither dataset confirmed a final market bottom.

Positive funding created another risk for leveraged buyers. Rising open interest during a breakdown could trigger another long-liquidation event. Negative netflows and subdued leverage would present a more constructive combination.

Bitcoin Price USD Approaches Its Next Verifiable Test

The immediate test remained the $62,000 support area. Novaque Research said a break below that level could worsen liquidation risk. That outcome required rising open interest and continued positive funding.

A stronger setup required Bitcoin to reclaim wedge resistance with a daily close. Buyers also needed exchange netflows to turn negative. Short-term-holder profitability would strengthen if its ratio held above one.

Until those signals appeared, the bitcoin price USD remained technically compressed. The next verifiable catalysts were a close above $65,200 or below $62,000. Either move would provide clearer evidence about August’s direction.
