COIN Price Prediction as Coinbase Launches US Stock Trading in the UK?

Coinbase Global began offering eligible UK customers access to thousands of U.S. stocks through its mobile application.

The Aug. 6 rollout added zero-commission orders, fractional shares from £1 and extended trading across five weekdays.

Coinbase placed U.S. equities alongside crypto and cash balances within the same application. However, the products remain legally separate because Coinbase Capital Markets provides the brokerage service.

COIN stock did not record an early gain following the announcement. Shares traded near $149 before Thursday’s opening bell after closing the previous session at $149.89.

Coinbase Starts 24/5 U.S. Stock Trading

Coinbase will gradually provide eligible UK customers with access to U.S.-listed equities.

The company advertises access to thousands of stocks, with extended-hours trading available for eligible securities. Coinbase’s official materials do not support describing every listed stock as available continuously throughout the 24/5 period.

Customers can purchase fractional shares for as little as £1, subject to the eligibility of each security and order type.

Coinbase said customers can fund purchases using pounds or USDC already held within their accounts.

However, all securities transactions settle in U.S. dollars. Coinbase automatically converts eligible USDC balances into dollars, while UK customers can use GBP through its USDC auto-buy process.

The arrangement reduces the need to transfer funds to a separate investment platform. It does not eliminate foreign-exchange costs or settlement risks.

Coinbase One members can also earn rewards on eligible USDC balances. Those rewards apply to the stablecoin balance rather than the stocks held through the brokerage account.

Apex Handles Execution and Share Custody

Coinbase Capital Markets sends customer orders to Apex for execution. Apex Clearing holds the shares and manages clearing and settlement in the United States. Coinbase therefore uses established securities infrastructure for the service. The company has not introduced tokenized stocks through this UK rollout.

Keith Grose, Coinbase’s regional managing director for the UK and Europe, said conventional shares offer immediate value for customers. He also said Coinbase wants to engage with regulators before adding tokenized equities. The company plans to introduce more regulated products across Britain and the European Union during the coming months.

UK Regulation Supports the Product Launch

Coinbase connects the launch with its Everything Exchange strategy. The company wants one platform for crypto, stocks, derivatives, lending, payments, and other services. UK customers already have access to savings products and crypto-backed borrowing. Stock trading adds another regulated product to the existing range.

Coinbase also cited its UK MiFID license as part of the legal foundation for the expansion. The Financial Conduct Authority has finalized rules for the country’s next crypto regime. The authorization gateway should open in September before the new framework starts in October 2027. Coinbase expects clearer rules to support further product launches.

COIN Price Prediction After UK Expansion

COIN closed at $149.89 on August 5, down $0.84, or 0.56%. Premarket data at 8:32 a.m. EDT placed the shares at $149.00. COIN stock price moving above $150.73 would return attention to Wednesday’s high of $153.99.

However, a break below $145.00 would shift attention toward the $139 downside estimate. COIN has not traded at that level during the current session.

Previously, we reported that Coinbase stock faced further downside risk ahead of its second-quarter earnings. COIN stock had fallen 42% from its yearly high amid a crypto downturn that reduced trading activity.

Extended-hours trading also carries execution and liquidity risks for UK customers. Fractional orders do not operate outside regular US hours. Currency movements can change returns for buyers who fund dollar-denominated shares with pounds.
