Solana Vs. Ethereum: Solana Real Economic Value Recorded 11M, Outpacing ETH
  • Examining the growth of the Solana economic value reveals some crucial insights for investors.
  • In October, Solana’s transaction fees surged, approaching the historic highs of March.
  • This increase in fees suggests heightened network activity.

Recently, the Solana real economic value (REV) has surpassed Ethereum. Initially promoted as an “Ethereum killer,” Solana aims to outperform its rival. The Blockworks analysis confirms Solana’s feat against its biggest competition.

Ethereum and Solana have been competing for blockchain supremacy for years. However, 2024 has been particularly successful for Solana. This popular blockchain platform experienced significant growth due to various factors, including the surge of memecoins on its network.

Solana Outpaced Ethereum in Real Economic Value

According to a recent Blockworks analysis, the Solana real economic value has reached a record high of $11.08 million. This metric considers the minimum viable ecosystem, which includes the ease of developing decentralized applications (dApps) and the network’s transaction fees. This milestone indicates robust Solana network activity and a thriving ecosystem.

“Solana continues to reach major milestones in terms of network revenue,”

Likewise, the recent increase comes just after an X post ( that highlighted the Solana real economic value surged to $8.7 million on October 23, 2024.

This figure encompasses all revenue sources, including base fees, tips, and priority fees. This growth positions the Solana network favorably against Ethereum.

The analysis indicates that Solana experienced exponential growth in its real economic value, surpassing Ethereum earlier this month.

In essence, the Solana network has emerged as a more appealing platform for developers compared to Ethereum.

Why REV is Crucial for Solana?

Network revenue is crucial for Solana, significantly impacting its decentralization and security. Solana’s validators face high fixed operating costs due to the expensive equipment needed to maintain the network.

Smaller validators are particularly reliant on revenue, as their income is proportional to the amount of staked SOL coins. When fees decrease, these smaller validators risk financial instability.

This issue became evident in September when a decline in memecoin activity led to reduced revenues. It has raised major concerns about the Solana network‘s potential for increased centralization.

What Drove Solana’s Growth and Prospects?

Solana’s recent success isn’t just due to rising economic activity. The emergence of meme coin trading platforms like Pump.fun and Moonshot, which are primarily based on Solana, has significantly contributed to this surge. These platforms have drawn in numerous users and generated high transaction volumes, bolstering Solana’s standing in the cryptocurrency market.

“Meme coin trading has been a significant factor in the rise of network revenues,” adds Blockworks Research.

Additionally, the possibility of including SOL in U.S. exchange-traded funds (ETFs) positions it as a noteworthy asset comparable to Bitcoin and Ether. This potential integration could enhance institutional investors’ access to SOL, further cementing Solana’s role as a key player in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Rising Solana Fees Highlights Expanding Utility & Rise in TVL Showed Increased Trust

Solana has positioned itself as a formidable competitor to Ethereum, with the SOL token outperforming its rival. The increasing adoption of DeFi on Solana highlights its attractiveness as a high-speed alternative to Ethereum.

As of now, the Total Value Locked (TVL) on Solana has reached an impressive $7.72 billion. It marks a significant recovery, with TVL soaring from under $250 million at the beginning of 2023 to over $8 billion by October 24, according to DefiLlama.

This achievement of Solana real economic value indicates increased utility and development on the network. Metrics such as developer activity and generated fees are crucial for assessing network adoption from a development standpoint.

Many users, frustrated by Ethereum’s high fees and slow transaction speeds, have migrated to Solana, which can process thousands of transactions per second. This infrastructure advantage has attracted traders looking for cost efficiency and shifting preferences in the decentralized trading market.

In 2024, the Solana fees have surged, particularly in the first half of the year. Network fees peaked at $4.95 million on March 18 but started declining since then to $272,660 by September 7.

Solana’s network fees have experienced a remarkable rebound, reaching $4.7 million in the past 24 hours. This surge indicates a resurgence in dApp activity, driven by renewed bullish sentiment over recent weeks.

Although developer activity dipped earlier this month, there has been a notable recovery in developer commits. For context, Solana recorded 846 commits in March 2024, marking the lowest developer activity in the past five years.

At the time of writing in October, the number of commits had already climbed to 503. That marked the first instance in the past six months where Solana surpassed 500 commits.

SOL Ready to take over after Retesting recent resistance

Solana’s native cryptocurrency, SOL, has been trading within a bullish flag pattern and recently tested the upper declining resistance line. The surging Solana this week peaked at $179 on Thursday, October 24th, following a strong bullish trend this month, building on September’s momentum.

The resistance test led to some selling pressure, pushing the price down. At the time of writing, a 2.13% rise was seen.

Will SOL see a significant retracement? Based on the resistance test and historical performance, a substantial pullback could be on the horizon. However, the possibility of a bullish breakout remains, given the recent surge in SOL demand within the vibrant Solana ecosystem.

Another scenario is that the ongoing demand might limit SOL’s downside potential, assuming that on-chain demand for the cryptocurrency stays high.
