SEC Chair Gary Gensler Pushes for Crypto Firm Compliance Standards
Since Donald Trump’s reelection on November 5, many in the crypto community have urged him to fulfill his promises to the industry. However, it’s uncertain if Trump can remove SEC Chair Gary Gensler. That’s because any replacement would need Senate approval.
Until Inauguration Day, President Biden remains in office, and his appointees continue to lead various government entities. Clarity on Trump’s and his team’s previous claims will emerge once he takes office.
Recently, Gensler announced plans to require crypto firms to register and report information to protect investors. He identified approximately 10,000 tokens as securities that should comply with existing securities laws. Gary Gensler is enforcing these standards to mitigate the risks associated with crypto investments.

Under Gensler’s leadership, the SEC approved Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds and futures investment products. This marked a significant milestone.
However, he noted that many crypto firms have violated the “common sense rules” of compliance. Gary Gensler emphasized that the SEC assesses whether crypto firms are genuine or speculative.
He also highlighted that many crypto assets remain speculative and have not demonstrated sustainable uses.
Still, A Mystery For the next Person To Rule the SEC
Former CFTC Chair Chris Giancarlo recently addressed speculation about his potential future roles. He clarified that he has no intention of pursuing the position currently held by Gary Gensler or any role at the U.S. Treasury.
With Giancarlo out of the running, the industry is now waiting for President-elect Trump to announce his choices for SEC leadership. That could be noted in a recent post on X following Giancarlo’s statement.
As for reports that I’m in mix to run @SECGov, I’ve made clear that I’ve already cleaned up earlier Gary Gensler mess @CFTC and don’t want to have do it again. DC rumors that I’m interested in some #crypto role @USTreasury are also wrong.
