Crypto Market Crash: Bitcoin, Ethereum & XRP Prices Dip Over 5%

Key Insights

  • Bitcoin plummets to $99,090, a sharp 9% fall from recent $109,114 peak amid AI tech concerns.
  • Ethereum drops 6.8% to $3,047, with potential to breach the critical $3,000 support level.
  • XRP loses 11%, trading at $2.77 despite a bullish long-to-short ratio of 53.28% to 46.72%.

The cryptocurrency market witnessed a sharp downturn today, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP experiencing substantial losses.

Bitcoin fell below $100,000, while Ethereum and XRP dropped by over 6% and 11%, respectively, amid a broader market sell-off.

Bitcoin Drops Below $100,000 Amid Tech Sector Concerns

The price of Bitcoin fell by 5.7% over the last 24 hours to stand at $98,909 at the time of writing on Monday. This is a significant decline from its recent high of $109,114 that it reached during Donald Trump’s inauguration earlier this month.

The sell-off is said to have been triggered by the technology sector, especially after the meteorological performance of a Chinese AI application known as DeepSeek.

The application that is cheaper compared to its US counterparts led to a decline in Nasdaq 100 futures and fell by 330 points.

Experts have opined that the crypto market, which has been observed to mimic the trends in tech stocks, also depicted a similar decline.

Market analyst Adam Kobeissi said that the sell-off of risky assets such as cryptocurrencies was triggered by concerns of the US tech firms losing market share.

Furthermore, liquidations in Bitcoin futures have risen, with $68 Million in longs being liquidated in the last 24 hours across the various exchanges.

Ethereum Trades Below $3,200 as Bearish Pressure Intensifies

Ethereum fell6.8% to $3,047, nearing the $3,000 mark as bears ruled the market. The selling pressure picked up after the Ethereum Foundation was said to have sold 100 ETH at an average of $3,078.93, which yielded 307,893 DAI.

Per the report from Wu Blockchain, the Ethereum Foundation sold a total of 300 ETH in 2025. This comes after Ethereum co-founder, Vitalik Buterin noted that he would opt to use staking or DeFi income rather than selling ETH if the price hit $6,000.

In the meantime, a popular trader @Trader1PA pointed out that an inverted Head and Shoulders pattern might be the case for Ethereum.

This inversed H&S pattern will send Ethereum, the trader noted, implying that if certain levels of resistance are broken, the currency may well rebound.

Despite current bearish conditions, Ethereum has historically performed well in February and March.

However, this is not the first time that the bearish trend has engulfed the market, especially in February and March when Ethereum has always done well.

Furthermore, institutional investors deployed capital into Ethereum ETFs, with the asset class witnessing $139 Million in inflows in the previous week.

XRP Suffers 11% Decline But May See Recovery

The price of XRP dropped by 11% to $2.77, which was accompanied by a transfer of $103.65 Million out of exchanges.

According to recent data, the long-to-short ratio is 53.28 to 46.72 which can be seen as slightly bullish but with caution.

Another market analyst known as Dark Defender predicted a triangle pattern on the XRP price chart that may result in a breakout.

The analysis suggested that the next level of resistance was $5.85, and the long-term Fibonacci projections indicated that if the upward movement were to continue, the target could be $18.23.

Rumors also came up after a post was made on social media by Elon Musk and later on deleted, which had a reference to XRP. However, this claim remains unverified.

Speculation also emerged after reports of a deleted social media post by Elon Musk, which allegedly referenced XRP. However, this claim remains unverified.

Market Awaits Federal Reserve’s Upcoming Decision

Market participants are shifting attention to major economic indicators due this week such as the Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates at its policy meeting. Experts claim the following decision will affect the traditional and cryptocurrency markets.

According to Arthur Hayes, the former CEO of BitMEX, this could signal that Bitcoin might bottom out at $70,000 before climbing back to $250,000 by the end of the year. He based this possible rebound on anticipated Federal Reserve actions for stimulus plans.

Nevertheless, there are ongoing concerns within the crypto market, and institutional interest in digital assets has remained strong.

Bitcoin ETFs have seen $4.2 Billion roll in in 2025, with an additional $1 Billion coming after the inauguration of Donald Trump. For instance, MicroStrategy has recently added more Bitcoin to its portfolio buying 14,600 BTC this month alone.
