- Ben Adams, a co-founder of Illyriad Games, introduced the EIP-7781 proposal on October 5.
- The new block times are anticipated to result in a 50% increase in total transaction throughput on the Ethereum mainnet.
In the first week of October, Ethereum (ETH) developers proposed EIP-7781 to reduce block time rapidly. This new Ethereum upgrade minimizes block times by 8 seconds to 12 seconds. It may boost the overall transaction throughput on the Ethereum mainnet by 50%.
Ben Adams, one of Illyriad Games’s co-founders, inaugurated the initiative. He presented the EIP-7781 proposal on October 5. Transaction processing time and user experience might be improved under this new block.
Ethereum’s network efficiency will increase with shorter block times. Since Layer 2 solutions depend on the mainnet for operation, they ought to be the main beneficiaries of the upgrade. This may also result in users paying less for Layer 2 services.
New Ethereum Upgrade Eyeing to Cut Transaction Fee
The EIP-7781 proposal improves the data blob capability of Ethereum. The goal of shortening the block time is to increase the latency of rollups. Higher throughput and lower total user transaction costs should result from it.
EIP-7781 was one of the most significant recent announcements from developer Cygaar’s social media post. It’s a crucial step toward strengthening Ethereum’s fundamental structure, he said.
The proposal aligns with the larger objectives of scaling up to Ethereum to support more users and applications.
Justin Drake, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, also supports the endeavor. He pointed out that the update might increase the network’s capacity to support decentralized exchanges such as Uniswap v3. Users would pay less for their use since they would operate with less inefficiency.
Adam Cochran Supports Hardware testing
Despite having many potential benefits, some developers doubt this Ethereum upgrade. They claim that the shorter block time may hurt solo stakers. Stakeholders will need to make hardware investments to combat higher execution state growth.
Concerns have also been raised about growing network bandwidth requirements. Higher bandwidth requirements will probably challenge Ethereum’s long-term decentralization goals. Also, the developers are concerned that fewer people will participate as validators.
According to Adam Cochran, a partner at Chinnehaim Ventures, it seems reasonable, but he added more hardware testing was needed. By putting homestakers through these tests, the Ethereum network will ensure they are legitimate users.
Redistribution of Bandwidth Ensures Consistent Network Performance
EIP-7781 may give Ethereum a new life. It is anticipated to draw in new users and development initiatives. Ethereum has been marginalized in the blockchain space until now. However, this spike in activity may cement its position in both.
Furthermore, the performance of Ethereum-based apps would be enhanced by the suggested modifications.
Quicker transactions might improve user satisfaction and encourage using DeFi (decentralized finance) products. As a result, Ethereum will benefit more from user interactions on its platform.
Additionally, it intends to distribute bandwidth equally to lessen the strain on the network during peak usage. Better user experience and more stable performance are the main goals of this redistribution.
