- ETH leverage ratio has increased and signals a bullish rally post-breakout.
- Buyers have lost momentum in December and ETH price has remained bearish.
Ethereum (ETH) price witnessed a great rally in November and surged by 47%. However, the bullish trend was interrupted near the $4,000 territory.
It formed a double-top pattern in the major resistance territory of $4K and witnessed selling pressure. Ethereum price has been falling through a falling wedge and hovered near the 200-day EMA.
Ethereum Estimated Leverage Ratio on All Exchanges
Ethereum’s estimated leverage ratio (ELR) has increased to 0.61, per CryptoQuant. This highest level in recent months is the result of market participants’ growing desire to hold leveraged positions.
Investor greed raises the appetite for leverage and is frequently linked to greater confidence in the direction of prices.
It does, however, carry a significant risk of such abrupt price swings, especially during consolidation, as Ethereum is currently going through.

Since the start of 2024, Ethereum has demonstrated resilience as its price has recovered from previous lows and regained important levels. Due to its recent movement, it is now limited to a relatively small trading range of $3.2K to $3.5K.
This consolidation phase has persisted and is expected to produce a significant breakout despite the higher leverage ratio. Since increased leverage is frequently a prelude to volatility.
It is possible to hypothesize that liquidations are the catalysts of cascading price movements.
The current trend in leverage is intriguing because it coincides with Ethereum’s increasing dominance in the derivatives market.
Additionally, the market fragility was reflected by the fact that the number of contracts increased more quickly than the number of actual dollars sitting in the money market.
In both short- and long-squeeze events, a sudden shift in market sentiment can cause impulsive, sharp price movements that can catch unprepared traders off guard.
Ethereum Price Formed Falling Wedge Pattern
When writing, Ethereum crypto was trading at $3,200.00 which has dropped by 1.36% over the past 24 hours. The market capitalization was $385.43 Billion and the 24-hour trading volume was $21.87 Billion.

Amid the recent bearish move, the momentum has halted on the 200-day EMA. If the ETH price manages to defend the 200-day EMA, buying momentum could be experienced. If the price breaks out from the wedge, buying pressure can be experienced.
Conversely, if the price dives below the 200-day EMA, strong selling pressure can be anticipated. Once the price sustains below the 200-day EMA, it will bring selling pressure.
Reading the Leverage and the Pattern
Ethereum’s current market dynamics reflect a delicate balance between bullish potential and bearish pressure. The increased leverage ratio suggests that many investors are willing to take risks.
They are potentially anticipating a significant price movement as the cryptocurrency tests the boundaries of its current trading range of $3.2K to $3.5K.
The formation of a falling wedge pattern could be indicative of a breakout scenario if buyers manage to maintain support at the 200-day EMA. However, the market remains fragile, and a drop below this key level may trigger substantial selling pressure.
