Bitcoin recently experienced a sharp decline. However, despite this, MicroStrategy has continued its aggressive accumulation strategy.
The firm purchased 10,107 BTC worth $1.1 Billion between January 21 and January 26, 2025. At an average Bitcoin price of $105,596 per coin, the company, headed by Chairman Michael Saylor, made the purchase.

This latest addition brought the total Bitcoin holdings of MicroStrategy to 471,107 BTC. That is valued at approximately $46.7 Billion.
The company’s average purchase price stood at $64,511. This reflected a consistent strategy of accumulating BTC despite price fluctuations.
MicroStrategy’s Recent Bitcoin Purchases
MicroStrategy’s recent purchases indicate a sustained bullish stance on Bitcoin, even at six-figure price levels. Between January 13 and January 20, 2025, the firm acquired 11,000 BTC at an average price of $101,191.
The previous month, from December 16 to December 22, it bought 5,262 BTC at $106,662 per coin. Another significant acquisition occurred between December 9 and December 15, when it purchased 15,350 BTC at an average price of $100,386.
These transactions suggested the firm remains committed to its Bitcoin strategy despite market fluctuations.
Notably, the latest purchase by MicroStrategy coincided with the Bitcoin price briefly dipping below the $100,000 mark. The downturn followed reports that Chinese AI company Deepseek had developed a low-cost competitor to OpenAI’s products.

This development triggered bearish sentiment around Nvidia, which led to a market-wide sell-off. The event influenced the Bitcoin price action, prompting high-value liquidations.
Bitcoin’s Price Movement
Bitcoin’s recent price decline resulted in significant liquidations, affecting thousands of traders. Over the past 24 hours, 254,486 traders faced liquidation, with the total amount reaching $698 Million.

Notably, long positions accounted for $651 Million of the liquidations. The largest single liquidation occurred on HTX’s BTC-USDT trading pair, amounting to $98.46 Million.
The downward movement of the Bitcoin price coincided with concerns over U.S. technology stock valuations and economic data releases. The market reaction led to increased volatility, impacting traders with leveraged positions.
Despite these developments, MicroStrategy proceeded with its latest Bitcoin purchase. This reinforced its long-term commitment to the asset.
Regulatory Considerations
Despite never selling any accumulated assets, MicroStrategy may face tax obligations on its Bitcoin holdings. Under the Inflation Reduction Act 2022, the company could be subject to a 15% corporate alternative minimum tax.
This tax is calculated based on adjusted corporate earnings. Furthermore, this could impact MicroStrategy due to its substantial unrealized gains from Bitcoin.
A Wall Street Journal report on January 24, 2025, highlighted this regulatory aspect. However, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service may introduce exemptions under President Donald Trump’s administration.
It has signaled a more favorable stance toward cryptocurrency regulations. The discussion around tax liabilities follows MicroStrategy’s June 3, 2024, settlement of a $40 Million tax fraud lawsuit.
The company and Saylor resolved allegations from the District of Columbia’s attorney general. The attorney general claimed that Saylor had not paid income taxes in the district for at least a decade.
Michael Saylor Emphasizes Bitcoin Potential
Michael Saylor has continued to emphasize Bitcoin’s potential despite recent market fluctuations. His recent comments on Bitcoin’s volatility suggest that he views price dips as opportunities.
On January 24, he referred to market volatility as a “gift,” reflecting his belief in Bitcoin’s long-term value. Since 2020, MicroStrategy has maintained a Bitcoin treasury strategy. It consistently is increasing its holdings regardless of short-term market conditions.
