- A $2.97 breakout could fuel a rally to $3.90, confirming bullish momentum.
XRP price action presents a critical juncture as analysts debate its next move. A head-and-shoulders pattern warns of downside risks, while an inverse setup suggests a potential rally. The $3 resistance remains a key level, with a breakout fueling bullish momentum toward $4.60.
XRP Price Faces Strong Resistance at $2.60
XRP/USD price has traded within a tight range, around $2.35 for the past few days, showing resilience despite significant selling pressure. At the time of writing, the price briefly dipped to $2.30 before rebounding, signaling strong buying support at lower levels. However, the resistance at $2.60 remains a major obstacle, with bears deploying substantial short-leveraged positions.
Additionally, Coinglass data highlights that over the past month, investors have placed $404 million in short positions, outpacing the $283 million in long positions. The highest concentration of these short bets, totaling $244 million, is clustered at $2.60. Each time XRP approaches this level, sellers increase their positions, preventing a breakout. Until this selling pressure eases, the token could struggle to gain momentum.

XRP Head-and-Shoulders Formation
Notably, Crypto analyst Ali Martinez highlighted a concerning head-and-shoulders pattern on XRP’s daily chart. The formation suggests that if the XRP price fails to clear the $3 resistance, it could face a sharp decline. The neckline support at $2.10 acts as a key defensive zone for bulls. A breakdown below this level could trigger selling pressure, pushing the price toward $1.89.

Nonetheless, XRP price is trading above the neckline, which shows that the bulls are still in control. It means bulls are likely to test $3 if they maintain the price above $2.34. Rejection at this level could also confirm Ali’s bearish outlook, meaning that a decline is imminent.
Short Traders Hold Control as Liquidation Risks Rise
The ongoing battle between bulls and bears remains centered around the $2.60 level. The large volume of short positions at this price suggests that many traders expect another rejection. If XRP approaches this zone again, leveraged short positions could trigger another pullback. However, if buying pressure absorbs these orders, it could pave the way for an upside breakout.
The funding rate also shows that the short-side traders are willing to pay for funding and this implies that there has been an increase in bearish sentiments in the option market. Historically, this has lead to a short squeeze when the buying pressure appears on the other side. If this happens,XRP price may achieve a bullish breakout closing above the top MA trendline, and probably retest the $2.97 high.
Inverse Head-and-Shoulders Pattern Hints at $4.60 Rally
Conversely, Egrag Crypto has a different outlook, pointing to an inverted head and shoulders formation. This bullish pattern suggests a likely bull run if XRP price reclaims $2.97. A successful breach could lead to a measured move targeting $3.90, with extended gains toward $4.60.

This structure indicates that as long as the price is above the $2.10 level, the bullish analysis remains intact. However, buyers have to support this level while trying to establish a new bullish pressure above $2.65. Therefore, if this trend continues, the next point of instance is $2.97, which is a breakout point that may cause an uptrend market.
