Key Insights:
- AAVE crypto price eyes new levels as the crypto hits $3 trillion all-time deposits, thus breaking into the top 40 U.S. banks by deposit size.
- AAVE was smashing all-time highs across key DeFi metrics, including TVL, active borrows, total treasury value, stablecoin supply, and more.
- AAVE’s OI was flushed out, yet prices were sitting just above the previous local highs.
The founder of Aave Protocol (AAVE), Stani Kulechov, expressed his delight as the altcoin finally achieves its intended purpose. AAVE fought its way among the top traditional banks in the U.S. by the amount of cumulative deposits it handled.
AAVE price continued to show its competitors in the DeFi sector heels with a valuation slightly below the $300 mark. Only Uniswap (UNI) had a higher market cap among tokens that are solely focused on decentralized finance (DeFi).
Now, will AAVE maintain this position or even better the current milestone?
AAVE Positions Itself Among Top US Banks by Deposit
AAVE price is influenced by its DeFi activities. Data from AAVE’s page on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted that the protocol had hit a new milestone. In terms of deposits since 2020, AAVE has surpassed an all-time high of $3 trillion. These deposits have been in a steep upward trend from the charts, with the $4 trillion in sight.
The altcoin is a major player in the lending and staking front of the crypto industry. The support of Bitcoin deposits and borrowing further fueled this trajectory. For its revenue, it was among the top five with $19.3 million.

Per Stani Kulechov on X, the altcoin jumped three positions to clinch the top 40 U.S. banks by size of deposits. The founder promised a giveaway of 10 AAVEs to anyone who built a dashboard that compared AAVE to banks. The altcoin was ranked 38th with $67.92 billion, just behind UMB Bank.
At the top of the list is JPMorgan Chase Bank, which had more than $3.64 trillion in deposits. Bank of America, Citibank, Wells Fargo, and US Bank completed the top 5 list. Still, AAVE had an uphill task to displace these big players now that they were adopting crypto gradually.
AAVE’s Key DeFi Metrics
The performance of its onchain metrics also impacts AAVE price. The ETH-based borrowing protocol coin was making ATHs across multiple fronts. The TVL was $68 billion while lending was $106 billion. It controlled a market share of 64% in this sector. The total treasury value also peaked at $125 million.
Holders were not fading away. Instead, they were tightening their grip. The balance on exchanges was reducing day by day. Balances dropped from 6.16M to about 5.41M tokens. A total of 750 million AAVE worth $234 million had left CEXs for cold storage. The value locked in cold storage by exchanges surpassed $1B.

Meanwhile, tokens valued at $883 million were also staked. The amount of USDT on Aave crossed the high at $8.1B, adding to the supply of stablecoins. Aave’s GHO supply was also at ATH of $349M. Adding all together, more than 40% of all AAVE was in the lobby awaiting a price breakout.
Will AAVE Price Continue Holding Above Local Highs?
AAVE price was still healthy despite the recent market-wide downturn. Its open interest (OI) was at $1.188M. Despite the declining OI, the prices stabilized just above previous local highs. Also, the seller-dominated volumes were insufficient to make AAVE fall as hard as other cryptos.
The aggregated liquidations in USD were weighted more in short positions. The annual funding rate average was, however, green. Short stints of red, for instance, in the most current data, were evidence that buyers reigned.

Summary
In conclusion, AAVE price could reclaim its ATH of $527 despite only coming close to it in December 2024. The milestone in deposit, position among US banks and growing DeFi metrics were all great gauges for future price action.
