The Altcoin Season Index has finally crossed 75, marking the beginning of altcoin season. As the index approaches 78, analysts forecast that altcoins will experience upward movement. Bitcoin price has been steady, and now altcoins are poised to grab the spotlight and lead the charge.
Altcoin Season Confirmed With Index Explosion
The Altcoin Season Index, a key market indicator that compares altcoin performance against Bitcoin, crossed 78 this week. The move confirmed what many traders anticipated, starting a new altcoin season.

Historically, when the index breaks above 75, it reflects sustained outperformance by altcoins. Analyst BitBull noted this shift on X, adding that altcoins typically begin major rallies when this threshold is breached.
Bitcoin’s price has remained stable for months. However, its share of the total crypto market has gradually declined, allowing altcoins to outperform. This rotation marks a transition in market leadership, which could extend into Q4 2025.
Altcoin Season and Bitcoin’s Market Position
Analyst BitBull flagged the index surge to 78, describing it as the “official confirmation” of altseason. He noted that each past breakout above 75 triggered weeks of outsized altcoin gains, even when Bitcoin remained rangebound.
Bitcoin’s market dominance dipped below 49.5%, extending its multi-week slide. This gave room for capital to rotate into smaller-cap tokens and Ethereum-based assets. Investors appear more willing to take risks again, following a cooling in U.S. CPI and dovish commentary from the Federal Reserve.

CryptoJack, a popular analyst on X, added that some altcoins were now “posting 40% daily gains,” a pattern common in prior alt seasons. He said the rally was driven by declining Bitcoin dominance and speculative demand shifting into mid-cap names.
Role of the Golden Cross and the Surge of Altcoins
Master of Crypto pointed out a golden cross as it appears in the altcoin market. This technical signal happens when a short-term moving average crosses over a long-term moving average.
In 2017 and again in 2021, the golden cross marked explosive altcoin movements, with some seeing gains upwards of thousands of percent.

Master of Crypto suggested the same pattern was emerging again. The golden cross showed a trend in the market shifting towards altcoins. The golden cross has been a precursor of huge price movements in past cycles. If history repeats itself, altcoins may experience a massive rally soon, particularly now that the Bitcoin price is relatively stable.
Bitcoin Dominance Fading, Altcoins Are on the Rise
Meanwhile, Trader Tardigrade pointed out the formation of a bear flag in Bitcoin’s dominance chart. A bear flag is a bearish technical pattern indicating that Bitcoin’s dominance might decrease. This pattern has been familiar in previous market cycles.

In his analysis, Trader Tardigrade estimated that Bitcoin’s rankings will only fall. With Bitcoin losing its dominance, there will be greater movement of capital into the altcoins.
Notably, each failure in Bitcoin’s dominance has a historic benefit for altcoins. Investors may notice bigger movements in these cryptos as the altcoin market gains momentum.
Meanwhile, the altseason market cap shows signs of a breakout, driven by the ongoing liquidity rotation and the growing ETH dominance. As the Altcoin Season Index hits an 8-month high, traders increasingly focus on altcoins, fueling expectations for a market cap doubling.
