Metaplanet Soars 6% After 150M Share Buyback, $500M Credit Facility

Key Insights:

  • Metaplanet authorized a 150M share buyback to strengthen capital efficiency.
  • The firm secured a $500M credit facility for flexible capital allocation.
  • Stock rose 6% to 518 JPY amid investor optimism over BTC yield strategy.

Metaplanet stock jumped 6% after authorizing a 150M share buyback and securing a $500M credit facility. The move signaled renewed focus on Bitcoin yield strategy and balance sheet strength as the firm eyed a fourth-quarter recovery.

Metaplanet Launches Major Buyback and Credit Plan

Metaplanet Inc. (TSE: 3350) announced a share repurchase program authorizing the buyback of up to 150 million shares of its common stock. The Tokyo-based Bitcoin-focused firm also disclosed the establishment of a $500 million credit facility to enhance capital efficiency and strengthen its balance sheet.

The company said the move aligns with its broader capital allocation strategy to “maximize Bitcoin yield” and support future growth initiatives. The statement, shared on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that the Board approved both resolutions to provide flexibility in execution.

Following the announcement, Metaplanet’s stock gained 6.15% to close at 518 JPY on Oct. 28, marking its best daily performance in nearly a month. The uptick followed weeks of consolidation below the 500 JPY level.

Strategic Shift Toward Long-term Bitcoin Yield

Simon Gerovich, a digital asset analyst, described the buyback as part of Metaplanet’s broader goal of “enhancing capital efficiency and maximizing Bitcoin yield.” He noted that the new credit facility provides “flexibility in executing its capital allocation strategy.”

According to Dylan LeClair, the company’s growing focus on Bitcoin-based reserves and yield strategies places it among a small group of Tokyo-listed firms integrating digital assets into corporate finance.

LeClair wrote, “Metaplanet has authorized the repurchase of up to 150 million shares of its common stock. Concurrently, the company has secured a credit facility for up to $500 million to be utilized at the company’s discretion.”

The combined move marks Metaplanet’s latest effort to bolster investor confidence following a volatile quarter. The firm’s stock had fallen sharply from its June highs of over 2,000 JPY before stabilizing in October.

BTC-backed Balance Sheet Expansion Continues

The new financial structure signals that Metaplanet aims to sustain its position as Japan’s “Bitcoin proxy.” The company previously disclosed its growing Bitcoin holdings as part of its corporate treasury strategy, drawing parallels to MicroStrategy’s balance-sheet model in the U.S.

Gerovich added that the initiative reflects a “measured approach” to capital optimization amid ongoing regulatory consultation over preferred share listings. Adam Livingston shared a related update, citing preliminary discussions with the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE).

Livingston wrote, “The listing of preferred shares requires prior consultation with the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is subject to a formal listing examination. While preliminary consultations have commenced, listing approval is not guaranteed and remains subject to regulatory review.”

Market observers view the buyback and credit facility as preparatory steps for potential expansion of the firm’s Bitcoin yield model once regulatory conditions are clear.

Metaplanet’s Technical Setup Hints at Bullish Reversal

On the technical front, Metaplanet’s daily chart shows a developing recovery after months of downward pressure. The stock has broken out of a descending channel pattern, with price now trending above the midline of a pitchfork channel.

According to data from TradingView, Metaplanet closed at 504 JPY, up 3.28% on the day, with a stochastic RSI reading of 84.41, suggesting renewed bullish momentum. A sustained move above 520 JPY could open the path toward 600 JPY, while the 450 JPY area remains short-term support.

Traders attributed the move to growing institutional interest and renewed optimism over the company’s capital realignment. The technical breakout, combined with strong trading volume, adds to the bullish outlook for the next quarter.

Investor Confidence Returns as Company Consolidates Strategy

The combination of the share repurchase program and the new credit facility signals a renewed focus on shareholder value. Investors interpreted the move as an effort to stabilize the stock while maintaining exposure to Bitcoin-driven returns.

Market sentiment shifted after the company’s communication emphasized long-term sustainability over short-term speculation. Analysts said the $500 million credit facility provides the liquidity necessary to execute its strategy efficiently, allowing for flexibility amid volatile conditions.

Meanwhile, the ongoing consultation with the Tokyo Stock Exchange on preferred shares reflects a cautious but transparent approach to regulatory compliance. The company said any material developments related to the process would be “promptly disclosed.”

Metaplanet Positions for a Stronger Q4 Rebound

With improving technical indicators and strategic corporate moves, Metaplanet appears positioned for a Q4 rebound. Its dual approach, which reduces float through share repurchases and expands credit access, may strengthen investor trust and provide a cushion for future volatility.

Analysts believe that the firm’s continued alignment with Bitcoin yield optimization positions it among Japan’s few publicly traded companies that actively integrate digital asset strategy with corporate finance.

As Bitcoin’s price steadies near multi-month highs, Metaplanet’s timing could reinforce its narrative as Japan’s institutional gateway to Bitcoin exposure. The latest buyback authorization and credit facility underscore a clear direction: disciplined balance sheet management with digital asset integration at its core.
