Pi Coin price strengthened alongside the broader crypto-market recovery as PI reclaimed a market capitalization above $1 billion. The token briefly traded above $0.10 after rebounding sharply from its July low.
Attention has also shifted toward Pi Network’s Protocol 27 upgrade and an Aug. 24 change to Pi App Studio pricing. Both developments could strengthen the ecosystem narrative, although PI still faces weak liquidity and future supply pressure.
Pi Coin Price Eyes Breakout Past $0.11
Pi Coin has once again reclaimed the $1 billion market as its price surged to $0.11 earlier today. The latest upside comes amid gains in the overall crypto market. However, volatility has once again picked in, causing major liquidations for traders.
The Pi Network token has made a strong 36% price surge from the July lows of $0.07070 to $0.09634 as of August 21. In recent weeks, PI has also appeared on CoinMarketCap’s Community Bullish Sentiment and Most Visited lists.
The bullish price action, combined with positive sentiment across the broader crypto market, help Pi Coin hit the $0.11 levels earlier today. However, PI recently experienced a sharp shakeout after surging to around $0.1109, then plunging to $0.0830 before quickly recovering. The move suggests heavy long liquidations, stop-loss triggers and aggressive selling.

With the recent pump and rejection at $0.11, traders remain confused. The amount of Taker Sell Volume during the 15-minute candle will determine whether this momentum can last ahead.
Although Pi Coin has reclaimed the $1 billion market cap, its gains are still modest in comparison to other altcoins. The token is still nearly 75% down year-to-date, while trading volume remains below its peak levels. Pi token also continues to lack listings on major exchanges, limiting broader market access and liquidity.
All Eyes on Protocol 27 Pi Network Upgrade
Pi Network continues to advance its Mainnet infrastructure and ecosystem utility in August 2026. It is currently focusing on protocol upgrades, node improvements and app development tools. The project remains in the Open Mainnet phase, following the removal of its firewall in February 2025.
The Protocol 26 Mainnet upgrade has been completed, with node operators facing an August 11 deadline to upgrade or risk disconnection. The upgrade, the ninth protocol update in recent months, improves contract safety, state management, interoperability and cryptography. Moreover, it also serves as a precursor to the final planned upgrade.
Meanwhile, Protocol 27 is advancing on Testnet following its announcement on August 21, 2026. The upgrade introduces more flexible and secure smart contract authentication capabilities for advanced transaction authorization by accounts and applications.
The Mainnet upgrade is scheduled for September 15, 2026. The Core Team describes Protocol 27 as the final planned upgrade in the current sequence as the network shifts toward a stable foundation for applications.
Pi Coin Price Needs Clean Break Above $0.11
The short-term technical setup now centers on $0.11. PI has already demonstrated that sellers remain active around that region after the latest sharp rejection.
A sustained move above $0.11 would strengthen the bullish structure and could shift attention toward higher resistance. Failure to hold the current recovery would instead expose PI to renewed weakness toward the $0.08 region.
Protocol 27 and the App Studio pricing update provide identifiable ecosystem catalysts. Neither development, however, guarantees that Pi Coin price will continue higher.
For now, traders have two separate signals to monitor. PI needs to maintain its price recovery while the network must demonstrate that Protocol 27 and App Studio changes generate measurable activity after deployment.
