Pi Network price remained near $0.095 on Sept. 10 after spending several weeks inside a narrow trading range. PI has struggled to participate fully in the broader cryptocurrency recovery and remains substantially below its 2025 peak. Attention now turns to the targeted Sept. 15 Protocol 27 Mainnet upgrade.
PI currently carries a market capitalization of around $1.07 billion, with daily trading volume around $6-$7 million. The token remains roughly 97% below its February 2025 record near $2.99. Protocol 27 provides the network’s next measurable technical catalyst.
Pi Network to Launch Protocol 27 Upgrade
Pi Coin price has slumped by over 90% from its all-time high, with its market capitalization falling to $1 billion from a record high of nearly $20 billion last year.
The next important catalyst for the coin will be the upcoming launch of Protocol 27, which will cap a long process that started late last year.
This upgrade will introduce more features to the network, including smart contract authentication, automated market maker tools, and decentralized exchange (DEX) features.
The upgrade’s goal is to shift Pi Network from mobile mining towards utility, including positioning it in areas like decentralized finance (DeFi) and stablecoins. This, in turn, will make it possible for developers to build apps and compete with popular chains like Ethereum, XRP Ledger, and Solana.
Most importantly, this upgrade will help to transform it from a ghost chain into a utility network. As part of this transition, the developers introduced new capabilities, including local storage support, staking data API, file and video sharing, and improved developer documentation.
Still, this transition will be difficult as we have seen with other top chains that have attempted to take on Ethereum. Some of them, including IOTA, Berachain, Unichain, EOS, Algorand, and Scroll have not succeeded.
Pi Coin Price Faces Some Major Challenges
Pi Network token faces some major challenges ahead. First, there are signs that many people who used to be interested in the network have already abandoned it. That’s because many of the pioneers were largely interested in making a fortune as the token soared.
Second, demand for the token has remained substantially low in the past few months. CoinMarketCap data shows that the token had a volume of just $6 million in the last 24 hours. Most of this volume was in OKX, with Kraken having less than $700.
Third, the token’s weak demand has coincided with the ongoing token unlocks. The network has a maximum supply of 100 billion against a circulating supply of 11.1 billion. This means that it will unlock over 88 billion tokens in the coming years.
Further, Pi Network has continued to experience centralization concerns, which explains why some notable exchanges like Binance and Coinbase have refused to list it. Unlike other coins, its insiders usually have all the power and there is no community voting.
Pi Network Price Prediction: Technical Analysis

The daily chart shows that the Pi Coin price has been in a narrow range in the past two months. It has remained between the important support and resistance levels of $0.0715 and $0.1200 in this period.
However, the token has some red flags. One, it has formed a rising wedge pattern, which consists of two ascending, converging trendlines. The two lines are nearing their convergence level and may lead to a bearish breakout.
Pi Network price has remained below the 100-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA). It needs to move above this moving average to confirm a bullish breakout.
Therefore, the token may drop further in the near term. If this happens, the next key target to watch will be at $0.07156, its lowest level in July this year. On the flip side, a move above the resistance at $0.1200 will signal further gains.
