Ethereum Price in Trouble After Whales Dump 500K ETH—What’s Next?
  • 500,000 Ethereum sold by whales, causing price drop.
  • Ethereum faces resistance at $2,171, with a potential drop to $1,670.
  • Market sentiment turns bearish, but the long-term outlook remains strong.

Whales sold 500,000 ETH creating selling pressure triggering Ethereum price below  $2,000 level. With major liquidation and increased volatility, there has been negative market sentiment regarding the movement of Ethereum’s price in the near term.

Whales Sell 500,000 Ethereum, Price At Risk

According to data from Santiment, whales moved 500,000 ETH offshore in just 48 hours. The market absorbed the sell-off shockwaves as Ethereum price fell below the critical $2,000 mark.

In turn, the whales’ sell off becomes the sign that the market sentiment is changing. This is a force of downward pressure on prices as the large holders liquidate their positions. The case of Ethereum saw the dropping of value in the market which adds to the bearish sentiment in today’s market.

Ethereum Price Faces Resistance at $2,171

Ethereum price is now dealing with resistance at $2,171 where any more downside is possible if it is unable to break through this level. On the other hand, market analyst best_analyst says that there has been a rejection of Ethereum’s price at this resistance level, which is a negative indication.

The chart analysis also shows that the next important support level is at $1,798 and $1,670 respectively. If Ethereum can’t manage to overcome the resistance at $2,171, it’s likely that Ethereum will have some downward pressure. Traders are closely watching the support levels at $1,670 and $1,798 where, if the price reaches these levels, we will likely see a rebound or further price drop depending on the fall of the support levels.

Bullish in the Long-Term but Bearish in the Short-Term

The short-term market sentiment has shifted with Ethereum currently trading below $2,000. According to CryptoPatel, Ethereum could dip further and test sub-$1,000 levels before making its next upward move. Ethereum has previously respected key Fibonacci retracement levels, and this cycle, the 0.5 Fibonacci level lies around $661. This level is crucial as it could provide significant support if the market continues to correct.

Moreover, Ethereum’s open interest is dropping as the price slides down reflecting traders’ loss of confidence. Ethereum’s lack of momentum on the price is backed up by some traders closing their positions as the market retraces from its highs.

Despite the current bearish sentiment, Ethereum’s long-term outlook remains positive. The upcoming Ethereum 2.0 upgrade, increased adoption in the DeFi and NFT space, and Ethereum’s position as the leading smart contract platform could drive significant growth in the near future.

But market analysts remain optimistic and are expecting Ethereum to hit new all time highs in the future, with some forecasting a target of $7,000+ in the next cycle. Before resuming its bullish trajectory, Ethereum may have to stabilize first and also to have a period of consolidation.

Technical Analysis: Double Bottom Pattern Forms

As per the current Ethereum chart, we can see a double bottom pattern in the making which is a classic bullish reversal formation. There are two main lows (Bottom 1 and Bottom 2) near the same price level signalling price reversal may happen.

The RSI currently stands at 38.15, suggesting neutral-to-oversold conditions. A bounce could occur if buyer momentum returns. The Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) indicates rising buying pressure—another factor that could support a breakout.

Ethereum price Key support lies at $1,798 and $1,670. Resistance remains firm near $2,171. A breakout above this resistance may open the path to $2,400 and potentially shift sentiment back to bullish.
