Tigran Gambaryan Leaves Binance and BNB Coin Price Reacts

Tigran Gambaryan confirmed his departure from Binance through an official statement, marking the end of his tenure as Head of Financial Crime Compliance. When he joined the cryptocurrency exchange, Binance did not have a dedicated investigations team. Gambaryan was brought on board by founder Changpeng Zhao to develop and lead an internal unit focused on addressing financial crime within the platform’s operations.

In four years, Gambaryan was responsible for setting up Binance’s international investigations function. The department increased to include more than 100 people with backgrounds in federal law enforcement, prosecution, and understanding financial crimes.

Notably, he worked to make Binance follow the rules and laws set by U.S. and international regulators. The investigations unit aimed to promote Binance’s partnership with leading regulators and supervisory bodies globally.

Binance Processed Over 57,000 Law Enforcement Requests in One Year

During his time at Binance, Gambaryan’s team handled an extensive number of compliance-related operations. In their first year of operations alone, the investigations unit responded to more than 57,000 law enforcement inquiries. These cases involved matters such as terrorism financing, transnational fraud, narcotics trafficking, and cybercrime.

Furthermore, the investigations team collaborated with multiple international enforcement agencies. Notable cases included supporting the Royal Thai Police in dismantling a $270 million cryptocurrency fraud network. Other included identifying wallets linked to ISIS operations, and assisting Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in recovering over $400,000 in illicit funds.

Additionally, the team conducted training sessions for over 70 Nigerian agents in blockchain investigations, reflecting Binance’s compliance-focused partnerships with regulators and enforcement agencies globally.
