Stocks Bet on Peace as Israel-Iran Tensions Cool Off

Key Insights

  • Stocks and Bitcoin rose as markets signaled reduced fears of long conflict.
  • Israel and Iran launched new attacks, prompting global peace efforts.
  • China and U.S. called for de-escalation amid market stability.

Fresh hostilities erupted between Israel and Iran on Sunday, leaving multiple civilians dead or wounded and triggering immediate warnings from both militaries. The Israeli and Iranian armed forces issued alerts urging residents in affected areas to prepare for additional attacks. However, despite the sharp rise in tensions, market indicators signaled optimism, as Bitcoin posted gains and commodity prices showed restrained movement.

According to analysts from The Kobeissi Letter, these signals suggest investors are now factoring in the possibility of a peace deal rather than anticipating an extended regional war.

Stock Market Response Signals Optimism

Following Sunday’s cross-border attacks, global markets reacted with what analysts described as cautious optimism. Bitcoin rose to $107,114, up 1.58% in the past 24 hours and 1.41% over the past week. While geopolitical risk often pushes investors toward safe havens, The Kobeissi Letter noted that equity markets turned green and energy prices climbed only modestly, reflecting market sentiment that a prolonged conflict is not yet priced in.

Oil prices, typically sensitive to Middle East unrest, remained subdued. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 0.55% to $71.68 per barrel, and Brent crude increased 0.38% to $74.51. These levels are over 10% lower than last week’s peak. If markets had priced in a long-term disruption in oil supply, The Kobeissi Letter pointed out, prices would likely have surged past $100 per barrel. Instead, gold prices decreased, with Gold (GC) falling 0.47% to $3,436.56, and XAU/USD down 0.46% to $3,416.95. In contrast, silver climbed 0.63% to $36.585, and copper added 0.25%, reaching $4.8265.

Natural gas recorded the strongest movement among energy commodities, rising 2.37% to $3.666, reflecting seasonal and market-specific factors that appeared separate from the geopolitical developments.

Peace Efforts from Global Powers Intensify

While violence escalated on the ground, diplomatic efforts intensified over the weekend. China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi conducted separate phone calls with his Israeli and Iranian counterparts. According to Beijing’s official readout, Wang condemned the attack that reignited tensions and offered China’s support in facilitating a resolution. He emphasized Iran’s right to defend its sovereignty and expressed Beijing’s readiness to contribute constructively to de-escalation.

The United States also joined calls for restraint, with President Donald Trump urging Israel and Iran to consider negotiations. In a social media post, Trump referenced ongoing discussions and expressed hope that peace would soon be achievable. He added that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin could play a mediating role. During an interview with ABC News, Trump reiterated that meetings were underway to address the crisis and left open the possibility of Putin participating in diplomatic efforts.

This shift toward diplomacy has affected market expectations. As noted by The Kobeissi Letter, investor sentiment appears to favor a diplomatic outcome over sustained military escalation. Equity markets, typically sensitive to geopolitical shocks, reflected this belief by turning positive, further supported by muted movements in oil and gold.

Going to be a Big Week

Besides the developments in Israel-Iran, financial analysts pointed out other events that are expected to cause a lot of ripples in the week. Crypto Rover stated that geopolitical overtures will meet important monetary news by central banks.

On Tuesday the bank of Japan ruling is expected regarding interest rates. This will be preceded by the decision of the U.S. Federal Reserve on Wednesday and policy update of the Bank of England on Thursday.

Market players’ anticipation of volatility during the week is based on the fact that military events are mainly interspersed with economic policy announcements. The intersecting forces could affect traditional asset classes as well as cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, which has already started to appreciate throughout the tension crisis.
