Key Insights:
- $11B Bitcoin whale rotated billions into Ethereum holdings since Aug.

- Spot ETH ETFs added $1.8B inflows in five trading days.
An $11B Bitcoin whale accelerated rotation into Ethereum, surpassing SharpLink’s corporate holdings with $4B ETH. Whale profits, ETF inflows, and corporate adoption fueled accumulation as Bitcoin faced a correction, echoing past cycles, while Ethereum demand showed strengthening investor confidence.
Whale Rotation Fuels Ethereum Accumulation Trend
A Bitcoin whale worth more than $11 billion continued shifting funds into Ethereum, overtaking major corporate treasuries. Lookonchain reported on Sept. 1 that the investor bought another $216 million worth of spot Ether on Hyperliquid after selling $215 million in Bitcoin.

The address now held 886,371 Ether, valued at over $4 billion. That position eclipsed SharpLink Gaming’s 797,000 ETH treasury, worth $3.5 billion, making the whale the second-largest known non-exchange Ethereum holder behind Bitmine Immersion.
The whale began rotating on Aug. 21, selling $2.59 billion in Bitcoin to acquire $2.2 billion in Ether and a $577 million perpetual long position. The aggressive positioning reflected what Nicolai Sondergaard, research analyst at Nansen, described as a “natural rotation” into assets with perceived upside potential.
Profits Booked Before Larger Buys
Lookonchain data showed the whale closed $450 million in perpetual longs last Monday at an average Ether price of $4,735. The trade locked in $33 million profit before another $108 million in spot Ether buys.

These moves preceded the latest $216 million purchase. The systematic strategy highlighted measured risk-taking by booking derivatives profits before adding to spot holdings.
The whale’s activity also appeared to inspire others. Cointelegraph reported that nine large addresses acquired $456 million in Ether on the same week, echoing the accumulation trend.
Corporate Treasuries and ETF Inflows
Ethereum’s growing adoption extended beyond whales. Data from strategicethereserve.xyz showed Bitmine Immersion remained the largest corporate Ether holder with 1.8 million ETH, worth more than $8 billion.
However, the whale’s $4 billion balance now surpassed SharpLink’s $3.5 billion position, narrowing the gap between private investors and corporate treasuries.
Spot Ether exchange-traded funds added to the demand. Farside Investors recorded $1.8 billion inflows over the past five trading sessions, supporting Ether’s market above $4,300.
Market Correction Echoes Past Bitcoin Cycles
The whale rotation came as Bitcoin endured a correction. BTC traded near $109,113 after falling from a $124,500 peak two weeks earlier.

Crypto trader Ted compared the drop to earlier cycles. On X, he noted:
“$BTC recent correction mimics the Q2 2025 and Q3 2024 dumps. Both had a 30% correction before BTC bottomed out. Bitcoin could go below $100,000. This isn’t the top, but just a normal correction before a new ATH.”
His comments aligned with a broader view that current weakness did not necessarily mark a cycle peak. Still, near-term pain tested investor conviction as whales moved funds into alternatives.
Ethereum Rotation Signals Shifting Sentiment
The whale’s rapid accumulation highlighted shifting sentiment among large investors. Sondergaard pointed to corporate adoption and ETF flows as reinforcing factors. He said the trend reflected a broadening view that Ethereum offered relative upside compared with Bitcoin after its record highs.
While Bitmine’s $8 billion portfolio remained unmatched, private whale holdings now rivaled corporate treasuries, adding a new dimension to on-chain distribution.
For Ethereum, the convergence of whale rotation, ETF inflows, and corporate adoption reinforced its position as the second-largest crypto asset. The buying scale underscored confidence in its future role, even as Bitcoin cycled through corrections.
