A Bitcoin whale recently sold 2,000 BTC worth about $215 million and bought 48,940 Ethereum on September 1, 2025. The move happened as Bitcoin price traded near $107,000 after a week of steady declines.
Notably, this has spurred debate about what it could mean for the market at the start of September.
Whale Moves Out of Bitcoin into Ethereum
It is worth noting that a large Bitcoin holder shifted strategy at the start of this new month. Blockchain records showed the wallet offloaded 2,000 BTC and bought 48,940 ETH with the proceeds.
The purchase was valued at $214.7 million, with the Ethereum acquired at an average price of $4,386.15.

The timing mattered as the price of Bitcoin had dropped from about $113,000 in late August to just over $107,000. Analysts said the $107,000 to $108,500 zone remains a key support level to watch.
If BTC price breaks lower, it could slide toward $100,000, which also lined up with the 200-day moving average. Many traders use that level to judge Bitcoin’s long-term trend. The broader market added context to the whale’s move as the technical signals were mixed.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) was around 36, showing Bitcoin was close to oversold territory. That suggested there could be room for a rebound.
At the same time, both moving averages and the MACD showed that selling pressure was still strong, but with a likely switch soon. Outflows from Bitcoin ETFs, along with weakness in global markets, added to the negative mood.
Meanwhile, the move into Ethereum stood out. Whale buyers like this often draw attention since they can impact liquidity and sway short-term market moves. Some saw it as a sign that whales were diversifying or seeking better opportunities as Bitcoin struggled near support.
September’s Mixed Record for Bitcoin
The transaction came at the start of September, a month that had long carried a negative reputation for Bitcoin.

The numbers told a mixed story. In 2015 and 2016, Bitcoin posted gains of 2.52% and 5.94%, suggesting stability. However, from 2017 through 2022, the coin mostly lost ground in September. The drops ranged from 3.10% in 2022 to as steep as 14% in 2019.
This run of six straight years of negative monthly close shaped the view that September was a weak month. The pattern broke in 2023 when Bitcoin gained 3.99%. That was followed by a stronger 7.11% rally in 2024.
In September 2025, Bitcoin started the month with a slight drop of 0.12%. It left investors unsure if the recent gains would last or if the market would slip back into its bearish trend.
The latest figure left investors cautious about whether recent gains signalled a shift or if the bearish history would return. The data showed that September had never been a straightforward month for the coin.
What to Expect in the Coming Weeks
It is important to add that the market outlook for the last quarter of the year is still uncertain.
Market experts believe that if Bitcoin price holds above $107,000, it could move up to around $112,000 to $115,000. Should it break $114,000, it may climb as high as $143,000 according to experts’ positive projections
Overall, Ethereum’s role in the story was also important as the whale’s large purchase suggested a shift in confidence.
It pointed to a belief that Ethereum might offer more upside as the year progresses. Traders would be watching to see if more big holders follow this move.
Historically, the final quarter has often brought stronger momentum to digital assets, though the scale of gains remains varied.
With whale activity, ETF flows, and global markets all influencing sentiment, September could play a key role in setting the tone for the months ahead.
