Gold Hits New High as Markets Pump, Will Bitcoin Price Follow

The week started off with a substantial milestone in the global markets as gold prices hit an all-time high of up to $3,818 per ounce. Gold has experienced a faster-growing demand due to the ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty and new institutional investment.

The action also reinvigorates the comparison with Bitcoin (BTC), which is also commonly referred to as digital gold. The latest surge in the gold price suggests that Bitcoin could follow soon, based on historical data.

Bitcoin Price Nears $112,000, Gains Momentum

CoinMarketCap data shows that the Bitcoin price increased by 2.42% within the last 24 hours, trading at $112,131 as of press time.  Daily volumes shot up to $45.36 Billion, which represents a 92% rise over the previous day. This indicates a significant increase in investor presence as BTC approaches a major resistance level.

Analysts have raised a red flag at $112,000 as a key trigger point. Moreover, any sustained break may justify additional upward momentum.

A side-by-side analysis of long-term charts shows that the trend between Gold and Bitcoin movement is repeating. As a historical fact, breakouts to new heights in gold are usually followed by a significant surge in Bitcoin within about 100 days.

Charts show that a new jump has followed every peak in gold in Bitcoin prices. Money flows into Bitcoin were observed in previous cycles. However, according to the upsurge in gold, there was a rotational relationship between the two assets.

This present arrangement reflects those historic precedents. The sharp rise and fall of Gold in green streaks was soon to be followed by huge gains on Bitcoin in previous cycles.

If the correlation holds true, the new all-time high for gold might mark the beginning of another period of significant Bitcoin outperformance.

Analysts Compare Gold to Bitcoin, Who Will Win?

Senior Analyst James van Straten noted that the structure of Bitcoin is evolving in tandem with the repricing of gold. He termed the market as a slow stair-step progress that is triggered by consistent ETF inflows but still marked by pullbacks.

He compared this act to gold in the early 2000s, which increased steadily over the years with occasional corrections.

Another well-known analyst, Michaël van de Poppe, noted that a range below $107,000 is a good buying area. He stated $112,000 is the price to watch that will confirm renewed bullish activity.

The longer-term high above this resistance, he opined, would ignite wider market involvement and the shift to other cryptocurrencies.

The rally has also reignited the long-standing debate between gold supporters and Bitcoin supporters.

Euro Capital CEO Peter Schiff cast doubt on a Bitcoin-centered treasury plan advocated by MicroStrategy chairman Michael Saylor, saying that gold as a treasury asset was better than Bitcoin.

Schiff argued that dumping tens of Billions of dollars worth of gold will not put much pressure on the market. He states that trying the same with Bitcoin would ruin its price as the liquidity is less liquid.

An advocate of Bitcoin counters that the mass exits may be handled slowly through over-the-counter (OTC) markets, thereby reducing a price spike. They also highlight that Bitcoin has a history of giving better returns throughout the cycles than gold has, although its liquidity in the short term may be an issue.
