- A year-long dispute has ended between FTX and Bybit.
- The initial lawsuit sought $953M in total recoveries.
- FTX’s bankruptcy plan has been approved to repay customers up to $16.5 Billion in assets recovered after its collapse.
The bankrupt crypto exchange FTX has dropped its lawsuit against Bybit. Finally, both parties reached a settlement agreement worth around $228 Million.
The lawsuit alleged that ByBit’s investment arm, Mirana Corp., misused VIP privileges to withdraw $327 Million from FTX. At the same time, other customers encountered withdrawal restrictions.
The settlement ended a year-long legal battle over alleged preferential withdrawals before FTX’s collapse. FTX exchange collapsed back in 2022. After receiving court approval for its bankruptcy plan, the bankrupt crypto exchange will start repaying its affected users.
The recent settlement is one of the steps in FTX’s efforts to recover assets for affected customers.
A year-long Legal Dispute
In November 2023, FTX filed a lawsuit against Bybit and its investment arm, Mirana. The lawsuit was aimed to recover funds and digital assets that Bybit allegedly withdrew from FTX just before its collapse.
FTX claimed that Mirana withdrew $327 Million before the exchange’s collapse while other users were locked out. The bankrupt crypto exchange claimed that Bybit used its “VIP” status to expedite withdrawals.

FTX filed this lawsuit to recover assets and address the financial fallout from its sudden collapse. It aims to avoid the costs and uncertainties associated with continued litigation.
$228 Million Settlement Between FTX And Bybit
FTX and Bybit have finally reached a $228 Million settlement to end their legal dispute. This settlement will allow FTX to recover $175 Million in digital assets and sell $53 Million in BIT tokens to Bybit’s investment arm.
It still falls short of the $953 Million initially sought by FTX’s bankruptcy estate in its November 2023 lawsuit. This settlement is part of a resolution strategy by CEO John J. Ray III.
He has overseen FTX’s bankruptcy proceedings since taking over the exchange in November 2022. Now, FTX can focus on its broader bankruptcy proceedings and asset recovery efforts.
This move was part of FTX’s broader bankruptcy plan to repay its customers. The resolution of the FTX-Bybit dispute is a positive development for the cryptocurrency industry.
The recent settlement showcases the importance of resolving disputes amicably to ensure the best possible outcomes for all parties involved. For FTX, this settlement is a step towards rebuilding trust with its customers and stakeholders.
The recent settlement news hasn’t affected the price of FTT. According to CoinMarketCap, FTT was trading at $1.73 at the time of writing.
Next Steps For FTX
The settlement with Bybit is pending approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Judge John Dorsey. A hearing will take place on November 20, 2024. If approved, this agreement will provide substantial savings and contribute significantly to recovering assets for FTX’s estate.
Also, the court has already approved FTX’s bankruptcy plan. It has allowed FTX to repay customers up to $16.5 Billion in assets recovered after its collapse.
The plan aims to return over $12.6 Billion to customers. This plan prioritized repaying customers before other claims. It will ensure significant recovery for affected users.
