- Bitget becomes the first platform to secure a Bitcoin Service Provider (BSP) license in El Salvador.
- El Salvador continues to push forward with Bitcoin-centric policies, despite ongoing discussions with the IMF.
- El Salvador holds over 5,900 Bitcoins, highlighting its growing Bitcoin-driven economy.
Leading global cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 company Bitget has achieved a milestone as the first digital asset trading platform to secure a Bitcoin Service Provider (BSP) license. This will allow it to offer various services to clients in the crypto-friendly country.
This is part of Bitget’s broader strategy to win acceptance in several new markets by strengthening its regulatory standing and expanding globally. Additionally, it has obtained a license from El Salvador’s Central Bank (Banco Central de Reserva). In an announcement on Monday, the company confirmed that it is now authorized to offer Bitcoin-related services exclusively.

This license lets the company offer (within the nation) a range of Bitcoin-related services including exchanges, payments, and custody options. The country also seeks new market opportunities, slightly reducing Bitcoinization goals to receive massive IMF loans. In this way, El Salvador and Bitget play into each other’s future growth targets.
The BSP license is a critical regulatory framework in El Salvador. It gives companies a chance to operate within the country. This approval positions Bitget as a key player in supporting the nation’s Bitcoin adoption strategy.
“Latin America holds immense promise as a hub for crypto innovation, and El Salvador stands out as a pioneer with its bold embrace of Bitcoin as legal tender. Securing the BSP license is a regulatory milestone for Bitget. We’re here to fuel the region’s growth by providing secure, accessible, and innovative Bitcoin services. As the world’s interest in crypto accelerates, we see El Salvador as a gateway to unlocking crypto’s potential, enabling financial inclusion, and driving transformative change in real world use-cases,” said Min Lin, Chief Business Officer at Bitget

Bitget Is Actively Working Towards its Ambitious Goal of Global Expansion
Bitget is working to expand its service offerings by pursuing the Digital Assets Service Provider (DASP) license from the National Commission of Digital Assets. This license will allow the platform to extend its services beyond Bitcoin and offer a wider range of cryptocurrency solutions.
In addition to its efforts in Latin America, Bitget has already secured Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) licenses in Poland and Lithuania. This would enable the exchange to operate legally within these European markets. The company has also reentered the UK market by partnering with Archax, its UK FinProm approver. This partnership will ensure compliance with the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) Financial Promotions Regime.
As part of its growth strategy in Latin America, Bitget plans to establish a dedicated team in El Salvador to serve the region better and strengthen relationships with local users. This move is part of Bitget’s larger expansion goals in the LATAM market.
This is a region that is gaining recognition for its increasing cryptocurrency adoption. Many countries in Latin America are turning to digital assets for solutions to financial inclusion, remittances, and economic resilience.
El Salvador, the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, plays a pivotal role in this strategy. By gaining a license in the country, it has positioned itself to tap into an emerging financial market, by supporting the nation’s growing digital asset ecosystem.
This move aligns with Bitget’s mission to become one of the largest centralized exchanges (CEXs), offering secure, compliant, and innovative services across multiple jurisdictions. Bitget’s expansion into Latin America and other markets reflects its commitment to providing secure and compliant crypto services worldwide. This is solidifying its position as a trusted industry leader.
El Salvador’s Bitcoin-Driven Economy Continues to Expand
Bitget’s regulatory efforts coincide with El Salvador’s ongoing push to integrate Bitcoin into its economic policies. The country currently holds approximately 5,967 Bitcoins, valued at over $638 Million.
President Nayib Bukele has highlighted how El Salvador’s Bitcoin reserves have generated profits. This approach reinforces El Salvador’s role as a key player in the global adoption of Bitcoin. Moreover, it aligns with Bitget’s goal of expanding its regulatory presence in the region.

El Salvador’s focus on Bitcoin as a national currency remains a topic of debate and scrutiny from global institutions. The country is currently in discussions with the IMF regarding a $1.3 Billion loan, which could lead to potential changes in its Bitcoin laws. Reports indicate that the IMF may recommend making Bitcoin adoption optional for businesses, rather than mandatory.
Despite external pressures, El Salvador is pressing forward with its digital currency initiatives. The government continues to expand its global outreach, having recently entered into a partnership with Argentina to collaborate on digital asset management training.
Additionally, El Salvador is working on securing partnerships with several other countries to create an international framework for cryptocurrency adoption. These efforts signal El Salvador’s commitment to advancing its digital currency agenda, regardless of the challenges it faces.
Why Bitget Has Chosen El Salvador?
El Salvador has positioned itself as a global leader in cryptocurrency adoption, having made Bitcoin legal tender in 2021. Bitget recognizes the country’s potential as a hub for crypto innovation and is eager to seize this opportunity.
Min Lin, Bitget’s Chief Business Officer, highlights El Salvador as a strategic gateway to unlock cryptocurrency’s true potential. With the growing interest in digital assets across Latin America, El Salvador stands out as a pioneer in financial inclusion, driving real-world use cases for crypto.
To further solidify its position, Bitget plans to establish a dedicated team in El Salvador, to enhance its service offerings and strengthen its local presence in the region. This move underscores Bitget’s commitment to the region’s growing digital asset ecosystem.
