Ripple (XRP) Leads The Way With RLUSD Stablecoin Launch
  • Ripple is set to launch its long-awaited stablecoin, RLUSD, on December 17.
  • Ripple USD is a USD-denominated coin.
  • Raghuram Rajan, former RBI governor, and Kenneth Montgomery, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston’s former VP, are on the advisory board.

Ripple (XRP), a digital payment platform, is a pioneer in blockchain and cryptocurrency. Recently, this network announced the global launch of its Ripple USD (RLUSD) on December 17th.

The firm announced this launch on December 16th on X. Initially, this Ripple stablecoin will be enlisted on Uphold, Bitso, MoonPay, Archax, and CoinMENA.

In the following weeks, it has plans to expand on several other exchanges. The names include Bullish, Bitstamp, Mercado Bitcoin, Independent Reserve, and Zero Hash.

What do we Know About Ripple USD (RLUSD)?

This Ripple news came in the spotlight on Monday. On December 16, the company posted an X post stating, “The wait is over: RLUSD launches globally tomorrow!.”

In the post, the company described it as an enterprise-grade stablecoin. This Ripple stablecoin is USD-pegged and has years of experience with the platform.

The coin has multichain support and is designed for cross-border payments, DeFi integration, and bridging between fiat and crypto. Also, Ripple added, “RLUSD is a step toward the future of finance.”

Each RLUSD is fully collateralized with U.S. dollar deposits, U.S. government bonds, and cash equivalents. This robust backing ensures its stability, reliability, and liquidity.

The Promise of Transparency

Ripple (XRP) has committed to upholding the highest levels of transparency. The company would release monthly third-party attestations of RLUSD’s reserve assets to keep its word. An impartial auditing firm would handle that. Ripple’s CEO, Bard Garlinghouse, said the stablecoin would be launched under the NYDFS limited purpose trust company charter. New York State Department of Financial Services or NYDFS is widely recognized for having premier regulatory standards worldwide.

The CEO added, ”As the U.S. moves toward clearer regulations, we expect to see greater adoption of stablecoins like RLUSD, which offer real utility and are backed by years of trust and expertise in the industry.”

Strategic Partnerships for Global Acceptance

To ensure the global adoption, RLUSD has established multiple strategic partnerships. It has partnered with global exchanges, market makers, and payment providers.

These partnerships would aid the coin in achieving global acceptance. It may lead to the beginning of RLUSD use in the Americas, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and the United Kingdom.

This Ripple stablecoin comes with tons of financial use cases. Ripple (XRP) intends to use it to trade tokenized assets, manage liquidity, and make cross-border payments.

The total amount of payments made using Ripple Payments is $70 Billion. Furthermore, the platform has global access to 90+ payout markets.

Backed by Expertise

Ripple has brought financial heavyweights to the advisory board. The company has enlisted Raghuram Rajan and Kenneth Montgomery as the new joiners.

Raghuram Rajan is the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Kenneth Montgomery had a decorative career; he was the former first VP of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

The existing advisory board includes Sheila Bair and David Puth. Sheila is the former Chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and Puth is the Vice Chairman of Partners Capital. Additionally, the board includes Chris Larsen. He is Ripple’s co-founder and Executive Chairman.
