Key Insights:
- Bitcoin dropped 17.4% in February, its worst since 2014, raising concerns.
- Ethereum’s 31.95% crash marked its worst February ever, spooking investors.
- Analysts see BTC ranging between $72,000 and $85,000 amid weak demand.
Bitcoin and Ethereum recorded their worst February in years, sparking uncertainty among traders about whether a rebound is in sight for March. Data shows Bitcoin dropped 17.4%, marking its worst February since 2014, while Ethereum plunged 31.95%, suffering its biggest February decline ever. The sharp losses have raised questions about whether the downturn is nearing its end or if more volatility lies ahead.
Crypto Market Shaken by February’s Brutal Sell-off
The crypto market endured a rough February, with Bitcoin failing to sustain bullish momentum above $110,000 and instead crashing to $78,300. Ethereum followed suit, falling below key support levels and recording its worst February in history. Traders who anticipated continued bullish price action were caught off guard as the downturn erased billions in market value.

Crypto trader Magus suggested Bitcoin is likely to consolidate within a $72,000-$85,000 range for the next few weeks. On X, he noted that BTC may need more time to build a base before resuming any uptrend.
Similarly, trader Horse pointed out that Bitcoin’s weekend performance could turn more negative, influenced by market reactions to comments from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Despite the brutal drop, historical trends suggest that Bitcoin corrections of 30% are normal during bull markets. Analysts like ‘Intern’ pointed out that past bull runs have seen similar drawdowns, making this dip an opportunity for long-term investors rather than a trend reversal.
Ethereum’s Collapse Stuns Traders—Will It Bounce Back?
Ethereum’s 31.95% crash in February was a wake-up call for traders who had been expecting sustained gains. The sharp decline triggered panic selling, leading to increased volatility across the broader crypto market. However, historical data shows ETH has often rebounded strongly from such extreme monthly losses.

Looking at past March performances, ETH has averaged +9.96% returns, raising hopes for a possible recovery. However, traders remain cautious, as weak spot demand and increased selling pressure could extend the bearish momentum.
Despite Ethereum’s February bloodbath, some analysts remain optimistic about its long-term trajectory. A rebound in DeFi activity and Layer-2 adoption could help stabilize ETH prices, but for now, traders are watching closely to see whether it can reclaim lost ground in March.
Bitcoin’s $85K Recovery—Dead Cat Bounce or Bottom?
Bitcoin briefly bounced back to $85,120 on Feb. 28, fueling speculation that the market had found a bottom. However, skepticism remains, with traders warning that the rally may just be a temporary relief bounce rather than the start of a new uptrend.

JJ, Head of Options and Crypto Trading at HighStrike, pointed out that Coinbase spot bids were filled, marking the first time since September’s $52,000 bottom that bids outweighed asks. While this suggests buyers are stepping in, Bitcoin still faces resistance in reclaiming higher price levels.

Chartered market analyst Aksel Kibar is also watching Bitcoin’s price action closely. He described BTC’s dip to $78,000 as a “sharp retest” but declined to confirm if the price had truly bottomed. Kibar pointed out that Bitcoin’s daily RSI remains oversold, which suggests a possible bounce, but he warned that failing to post a higher daily close would indicate continued weakness.
Bitcoin has historically posted strong gains in March, with an average return of 12.98%. However, this year’s market conditions are different, as traders remain cautious about a sustained recovery.
With Bitcoin price stuck between $72,000 and $85,000 and Ethereum fighting to stabilize, March could be the turning point for the crypto market. If spot demand fails to increase, further downside remains a possibility.
Analysts remain divided—some believe the market has bottomed, while others warn that the worst may not be over yet.
