110M Dogecoin Was Bought in a Week, Here is What it Means

Follow The Market Periodical

Key Insights:

  • Whales purchased over 110M Dogecoin in one week, indicating possible price breakout.
  • Dogecoin’s long-term holders increased, while short-term traders surged by nearly 110%.
  • Active addresses on the Dogecoin network spiked, suggesting growing user engagement.

Dogecoin price has experienced a steady decline since mid-January, dropping from a high of approximately $0.43 to below $0.15 by mid-March. Despite these struggles, recent data shows a slight uptick in the price, with Dogecoin seeing small but positive movements.

Over the past hour, the price increased by 0.6%, while it saw a 0.9% rise in the past 24 hours. However, longer-term performance metrics show negative trends, as the coin has dropped by 16.6% in the past week and 35.9% over the past month.

Potential Breakout for Dogecoin Price?

Amid the declining price action, a chart shared by Ali Martinez highlights the correlation between Dogecoin’s price movement and the accumulation of coins by large holders, or whales. According to the chart, whale activity saw a notable uptick around March 14-15, coinciding with a slight increase in the coin’s price.

Martinez reported that over 110 million Dogecoin was bought by large players in just one week. This suggests that whales may be positioning themselves around the $0.16-$0.19 price range, possibly in anticipation of a price breakout. As whales continue to accumulate, there could be increasing pressure on the market, potentially indicating confidence in the coin’s future performance.

The whale activity chart suggests a more focused accumulation strategy by major players, possibly hoping for a rebound. As more whales enter at these levels, it may provide the coin with some stability and create a foundation for potential upward momentum.

Shift in Dogecoin Ownership Trends

Dogecoin’s ownership distribution provides further insights into the current market dynamics. A chart from IntoTheBlock reveals the distribution of Dogecoin holdings across various categories: Holders (1+ year), Cruisers (1-12 months), and Traders (<1 month). Notably, the percentage of long-term holders has seen a slight increase of 0.13%, indicating modest confidence in holding Dogecoin over a more extended period.

However, the number of cruisers, or those holding Dogecoin for 1-12 months, has dropped by 2.54%. This decrease may reflect the broader market decline following the 2024 surge. Conversely, the number of traders holding Dogecoin for less than a month has surged by 109.96%. This sharp increase indicates that many recent participants are engaging in short-term trading strategies, possibly looking to capitalize on short-term price movements.

The trend between traders holdings rising sharply while cruisers drop slightly indicates that Dogecoin is becoming more composed of active, short term traders.

Growing Engagement in DOGE

Another key indicator of potential positive market movement is the activity on the Dogecoin network. Looking to the network chart by Ali Martinez proves how many active addresses were being seen on the Dogecoin network. There is a large spike from late Feb to mid March.

Number of Active Addresses

The number of active addresses during this period exceeded 280,000, a large increase from the previous levels between 100,000 and 180,000. This increase in active addresses will prove that a great deal of more individuals are using the Dogecoin network which could be a prerequisite for any price upsurge.

In addition, the price has surged more than 2% in the past 24 hours, which coincided with its increase in number of active addresses. It shows that if there is an increase in the network engagement, then there can be positive influence on the price action.

These indications are further backed by IntoTheBlock’s data, which showcases a huge increase in new addresses and active addresses. The number of new addresses and amount of active addresses increased by 102.40% and 111.32% respectively, while zero balance addresses surged by 155.45%.

However, a rise of zero balance addresses by these figures seems to indicate that a lot of inactive accounts have joined the Dogecoin bandwagon. If we can ignore that, it is a good sign for market engagement. Ultimately, the active addresses on the coin have spiked sharply and only time will tell if this affects the price.
