Key Insights:
- Ethereum bounced off key support in a long-term descending channel.
- Analysts say ETH’s strength may signal early altcoin rotation.
- ETH still trades below major resistance despite recent momentum.
Ethereum (ETH) posted a notable performance over the past week, drawing attention from both market participants and analysts. Over the last 24 hours, the asset gained approximately 8.0%, indicating vigorous intraday buying activity.
More significantly,ETH recorded a weekly increase of 48.1%. The altcoin rose from just under $2,000 on May 9 to over $2,600 by the end of the period.
At press time, Bitcoin was trading at $104,656. However, the performance of ETH against BTC remained a key focus. The ETH/BTC ratio helps measure the relative strength of Ethereum compared to Bitcoin.
Analysts are closely watching this ratio due to new technical signals. These signals could indicate shifts in market trends for both cryptocurrencies.
ETH Shows Signs of Support Amid Downtrend
The ETH/BTC chart shared by analyst Captain Faibik illustrates a prolonged downward trend for Ethereum against Bitcoin. This trend has persisted within a descending channel on the 3-day timeframe, forming lower highs and lower lows.
The two parallel lines on the chart represent consistent bearish pressure. It underscores the relative weakness of ETH compared to Bitcoin during this period.

However, momentum shifted when Ethereum found strong support around 0.0210 BTC, near the lower boundary of the descending channel. Following this, ETH began forming a series of bullish candles, suggesting a temporary bottom may have formed.
This move was Ethereum’s first significant bounce within the channel. It suggests the potential for short-term bullish momentum.
Ethereum remains within a bearish ETH/BTC chart framework despite this bounce. The upper boundary of the descending channel stands at approximately 0.0276 BTC.
Captain Faibik highlighted this level as key resistance for ETH. A breakout above it is needed to confirm a trend reversal.
Without this breakout, the current upward move is only a correction. It does not yet signal a shift toward bullish momentum.
Analysts Weigh in on ETH’s Relative Strength
Alongside technical chart analysis, experts are assessing Ethereum’s recent momentum. They are examining its potential impact on the broader cryptocurrency market.
CryptoBusy reported that ETH surged 35.37% in the past week. This performance was five times greater than Bitcoin’s 7.70% gain.

CryptoBusy sees this trend as a sign of sector rotation, with capital shifting from Bitcoin to Ethereum. They believe this flow could extend to other altcoins.
According to CryptoBusy, this rotational pattern conforms to the market’s general behavior at the beginning of an altcoin season. Their view is based on the current price action of ETH and not structural or macroeconomic occurrences.
This fact is limited to contemporary data points. However, it signifies the rise of Ethereum’s leadership among key altcoins in the course of reporting.
Reed Carson compared Ethereum’s 2025 price movement to Bitcoin’s reaction to the March 2020 market shock. He noted the drop of ETH below $1,400, mirrored Bitcoin’s brief dip of under $4,000 during that crisis.

Both events occurred in the context of increased economic uncertainty and people’s panic in the markets. Carson cited the visual similarities between the 2020 Bitcoin recovery and Ethereum’s current path through this comparison.
Carson suggests ETH could follow Bitcoin’s past recovery pattern. He predicts a possible peak between $10,000 and $12,000.
Will ETH Outperform Bitcoin?
Overall, Ethereum’s rising price in USD contrasts with its ongoing technical struggle against Bitcoin. Although the bounce at the level of support indicates strength in the near term, the trend is yet to be broken.
Analysts are monitoring Ethereum’s resistance levels and inter-market flows for further insights. These factors help gauge its relative performance in the upcoming sessions.
