Bitcoin Treasury Play Intensifies as Metaplanet Buys 1,234 More BTC
Japanese public company Metaplanet has added 1,234 Bitcoin (BTC) to its balance sheet, increasing total holdings to 12,345 BTC, according to a June 26 disclosure. The purchase, valued at ¥19.27 billion (around $132.7 million), brings its average acquisition price to approximately ¥15.61 million per Bitcoin, or about $107,557.

The firm confirmed the latest accumulation in a public filing, noting that its total Bitcoin investment has now reached ¥175.68 billion ($1.2 billion). The average entry price across all purchases stands near ¥14.23 million, or roughly $97,036 per BTC.
Metaplanet’s exponential growth in Bitcoin exposure places it among the top global corporate holders of the asset.
BTC Yield Surges to 315% YTD
According to the company’s Bitcoin treasury report, Metaplanet recorded a BTC Yield of 112.2% quarter-to-date. Since Jan. 1, 2025, the firm’s BTC Yield has jumped 315%, outperforming previous quarters where it reported 41.7% and 309.8% gains.

BTC Yield, a custom key performance metric used by Metaplanet, reflects the ratio of total Bitcoin holdings to fully diluted shares. It measures how effectively the company’s Bitcoin accumulation strategy delivers shareholder value without share dilution.
From Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024, Metaplanet’s BTC Yield rose over 300%, followed by a 95.6% increase in Q1 2025. With the June 26 update, the company disclosed 826.5 million fully diluted shares and a BTC-per-share ratio of 0.0149353.
Corporate BTC Ranking: Closing In on Top 5
Metaplanet’s aggressive pace now places it just behind Tesla in the public Bitcoin treasury leaderboard. With 12,345 BTC, it ranks 8th globally and trails Tesla’s 11,509 BTC.
According to data posted by @ActuallyClimber on X, Metaplanet needs just 1,720 more BTC to surpass Galaxy Digital, CleanSpark, and Tesla, entering the top five. The tweet adds, “Will this happen in 21 minutes or in a few days?”

Another table circulated on X shows Metaplanet closing in on Galaxy Digital’s 12,830 BTC. At current prices, closing this gap would require another $185 million investment.
The company’s BTC holdings have grown exponentially since late 2024, as visualized in a chart by @ActuallyClimber, showing a near-perfect R² correlation of 0.9878 with an exponential curve.
Analysts Draw Parall:els With MicroStrategy
Market participants continue comparing Metaplanet to MicroStrategy, the U.S.-based firm that owns over 592,000 BTC.

“Metaplanet is an asymmetric bet inside an asymmetric asset,” wrote @DiamondHandsDig. “It’s basically leveraged Bitcoin, but without the liquidation risk.”
The post calls Metaplanet “Japan’s MicroStrategy, but earlier,” highlighting the low visibility and high upside of the position. “This is how you front-run the front-runners,” the post added.
Michael Saylor also weighed in. Responding to analyst Dylan LeClair, the MicroStrategy founder stated, “Metaplanet is the first company to achieve a BTC Rating of 99.”
Trading Volume and Investor Sentiment Climb
Metaplanet’s stock (3350.T) closed at ¥1,568 on June 26, down 1.57% on the day. Despite the decline, volume on Japanese exchanges has remained elevated following the announcement.
Social sentiment surrounding $MTPLF also spiked. Tweets praising the firm’s strategy, including those from @CryptoPatel and @ActuallyClimber, gained traction with over 5,000 views and hundreds of engagements.

“Can Metaplanet flip MicroStrategy this cycle?” @CryptoPatel asked. The firm’s BTC holding of 12,345 now gives it a $1.2 billion position—well below MicroStrategy’s $39 billion but the fastest-growing by percentage terms.
Metaplanet’s Bitcoin-first treasury strategy continues to reshape corporate exposure to digital assets in Asia. With strong BTC-per-share ratios, consistent accumulation, and growing investor attention, it positions itself as a rising institutional mirror to MicroStrategy.
