Japan’s largest publicly listed Bitcoin holder, Metaplanet, has been on a BTC accumulation spree over the past years and holds 15,555 BTC. Thus, it becomes the fourth-largest firm in the segment.
Company CEO Simon Gerovich recently unveiled the firm’s Phase 2.0 plans, which are to leverage their BTC holdings to buy new businesses moving ahead. Gerovich also shares key reasons why the company accelerated its BTC purchases in 2025, calling it a “Bitcoin gold rush”.
Metaplanet Latches on to Bitcoin Gold Rush
During his recent interview with The Financial Times, Simon Gerovich stated that they are currently in a “Bitcoin gold rush,” which could provide them a launchpad to expand into other digital financial services sectors.
Following its latest purchase this week, Metaplanet holds a total of 15,555 BTC in Treasury. Furthermore, as per its “555 Million Plan“, the company plans to increase its holdings to 30,000 BTC by the year-end, and further to 1% of the total BTC supply, i.e., 210,000 BTC by 2027.
Gerovich added that his company is planning to accumulate Bitcoin to a point where they attain an “escape velocity,” such that it’s difficult for others to catch up. While further revealing the Phase 2.0 plan, Gerovich said:
Following its aggressive Bitcoin purchase plan, the Metaplanet stock market cap has reached 1 trillion Japanese Yen. The company’s stock price is already up by 345% since the beginning of 2025. It’s nearly 1500% up since it adopted the Bitcoin strategy back in May 2024.
Almost 140 companies worldwide have joined the “Bitcoin gold rush.” Additionally, with the Bitcoin supply fixed at 21 million, only 1 million are left to be mined as of now.
Speaking on this, Gerovich said: “Four to six years is probably phase one in this Bitcoin accumulation phase, and then beyond that it becomes incrementally more difficult.”
Metaplanet Overtakes Toyota, Sony In June Trading Volumes
Following its mega rally in June last month, the Metaplanet stock clocked strong trading volumes for the month. At the same time, it overtook the likes of Toyota Motor Corp. and Sony on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE).
The company’s total trading value in the standard market reached 1.8695 trillion yen. That’s nearly double the 997.6 billion yen recorded in May. It makes Metaplanet the most traded stock in the standard market for the eighth consecutive month since November last year.
On the other hand, Namura Shipbuilding (7014.T) came in second for June, with a trading value of 516 billion yen.
For comparison, in the prime market segment, Toyota Motor Corp. (7203.T) recorded a June trading value of 1.6445 trillion Yen, followed by Sony Group (6758.T) at 1.3153 trillion yen.
The top spot in the prime market was claimed by semiconductor equipment giant Advantest (6857.T), with a trading volume of 4.8519 trillion yen.
Simon Gerovich Shares Roadmap To Enter Top 100 List
Crypto investor Simon Gerovich said owning just 22 BTC is enough to place an investor within the top 100 individual Bitcoin wallets and enter the coveted list of the “Bitcoin 100.”
Gerovich predicts this benchmark will become increasingly significant, likening it to the Nasdaq 100 in traditional finance. “That number will soar,” he wrote on X, adding that the Bitcoin 100 could soon become a widely tracked and benchmarked cohort.
He further suggested that institutional interest will follow as ETFs continue to grow in prominence, stating: “Capital will chase. You’re early. Position accordingly.”
